Wow- My husband works full time, makes fifty grand, and is in the military, 2 years ago while he was deployed our then 4 mo old almost died, he had to come home on leave and it took months to figure out why she could not stop vomiting and then once she was fine he went back, unfortunately the money we received during that time we obviously have to pay back hence hundreds a mo out of our check, after that, insurance and taxes we are pretty out of luck. we bring home under 30k

He obviously didn't read the question...probably too busy IM-ing his twelve friends and texting on his iPhone.

To answer your first question...Go pay a visit to your local branch of children and family services (whatever it is in Iowa.) Here's the bummer...a lot of places, once you are on assistance, will send out the social workers to check you out from time to time to make sure you aren't blowing the dough on cigarettes and booze. (and it's always the honest people who need help who end up getting hosed by the system.) So going on assistance is a crapshoot.

If you don't want Social Services prowling around your house on a semi-monthly basis, pay a visit to a debt consolidation place. Most of them are free and in some states it is required by law that free debt-reduction counciling is available. You might have to give up your credit cards, but they might be able to roll a lot of those bills together.

Also, call a veterans' group. I'm so sick of hearing about the government is screwing around with veterans. There has got to be someone at the VA, American Legion, AMVETS, who knows how to stick it back to the government. If they can't help lower the garnish on his wages...get a lawyer. Seriously, if the govt. won't work with you on your payback, call a lawyer and then go to the press. The newspaper and 6 o'clock news will LOVE another story about soldiers getting hosed by the government....yet again.

Last case...Bankruptcy. It sucks and it is hard to qualify for now...hence the state mandated credit counciling, but if you have a truckload of medical bills you might get them wiped away. It means a lousy credit rating for a while, but you'll save the house.

Good luck and thanks for your husband's and your service. Hope your daughter is doing well.

Obviously that person has problems with their own family if they have to look down upon yours. I don't think we (people on yahoo Answers) should give people like that attention. Thats all they are doing it for and hopefully it will stop if ignored. My family has very little money, but my mom still manages to dress me nice and ensured me and my brother had a good education. My family is very happy and more loving than most. I know a girl who has one of the wealthiest families in town and her parents never ever talk to her. They are either working or in their room. She is very attention deprived and has sex with about any guy because she sees that as attention. Just remember money isn't everything, and I hope your family situation gets better.

It isn't called the 'me' generation for nothing. What has happened to our families? What has happened to our priorities? Who cares how many kids a family has as long as they are raised to be socially responsible and able to love and care for their families when they have one.

Our society has become so money and possession oriented, that we have lost our way. People need to remember that it is the people in our lives who are the most important - your car/house/job can't help much when you have a crisis in your life. It's our family and friends who we need then - assuming we have made time to keep in contact and maintain our relationships!

To the person who said:

...more poor people will raise my moms, and dads taxes so I DONT GET THE STUFF I WANT so STOP HAVING SEX YOU POOR PERSON BECAUSE POOR PEOPLE RAISES MY PARENTS TAXES AND I DONT GET WHAT I WANT.

... I say, 'Get a life!' Perhaps it is the parents who can't be bothered to spend the time and effort to develop relationships with their kids who compensate by buying 'stuff' for them so they don't feel guilty. Isn't this the opposite end of the scale? Parents don't have time for their kids, so when the kids have families, time is never made for their kids cos they never had the experience in their childhoods.

Hope all goes okay with you and your family. Hang in there - hold onto each other and you'll be okay.

a lot of kids and adults, for that matter, have no clue what it is like to have to actually work for a living. They sit on their *sses and take without ever earning. So they don't appreciate it. I know where you're coming from. My husband and I bring home about 50K a year. It's hard to make ends meet when you have 3 kids. But we work hard for what we have and are very grateful. I, for one, do very much appreciate what your husband is doing for our country. I pray that one day, our government will come to realize that we need to support our military families who are (truly) ensuring our freedom. By support, I mean, providing for, and making sure that they are financially stable. Not losing their homes after being wounded in battle... Please tell your husband I said thank you!

Yeah people like that bother the heck out of me.

My husband makes pretty good money, but I live in CT, and it's EXPENSIVE to live here. I don't have ALL the luxuries that a "wealthy" person may have, but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't have children?

People can be really ignorant.

I think that answer is a case of venting. Many Americans get fed up with high taxes (myself included). Just take it as a rant, and don't let it get under your skin.

Just don't worry about it, it's not worth it, ignorance is bliss! Just wait till that person has a family, they'll be in a different perspective then.
