can u please help me understand if my parents view of humility is correct?is there really a difference between proud of what u do and proud? isn't it considered bragging if u talk about all the good things u do? of course i guess it depends on the situation, but isn't a symptom of pride if u ever state, "I ________" (and fill in the blank with any good thing u do except if u add a 'thank God' after it)? if so, how can i convince my parents that there is arrogance in any statement of saying how good u r? pls n thanks for any effort into helping me!

The only way pride will help you is if you swallow it. You should be pleased with your accomplishments, not proud of them. Only state your accomplishments when it is necessary, and then focus on the deed instead of the doer. You are no better or worse because you are a member of a certain group or you a certain attribute. We detest pride when we see it in others but cannot see it in ourselves.

Even though you may be right, I don't think you should try to convince your parents that they are wrong. In someways, that's wrong too, I guess it's kinda disrespectful, even though I feel very certain you would never mean it that way. Think about it, people who are practicing a sin always get defensive when someone points it out. Anyway, I'm not sure we should confront people about their sin unless we can do it with tears in our eyes. Pray for them, God is the only reason they'll change anyway. Might as well go right to the Source! Remember: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the power to change those things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I get my understanding from the Bible.

Romans 12:3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

1 Corinthians 4:7 For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?

Pride seeks to exalt the person who has it above others and to leave the gifts of God out of the equation. If a person goes around bragging about what they do then it sounds like they lack humility. But if they do something really good and they feel good about their acomplishment and give God the glory I wouldn't call them proud in a sinful sense.
