Get the classic Betty Crocker - still the easiest, best basic recipe book around! Plus it doesn't have a bunch of obscure ingredients in it! I gives you all the great classic dishes and then some! If in doubt, take it out at the library first and give it a test run!

Try these recipes. A box of Rice a Roni, add a cooked meat you like, chicken, beef, shrimp, throw in some peas and carrots. Bake a potato have a salad on the side, with celery, carrots, avocado, apples, anything left over. Add some pickled beets and cottage cheese. A quick roni dish, fix a box of mac and cheese throw in some mixed peppers and onions from the frozen food aisle and serve with french bread. Bon Apetit'

You can't go wron with the red and white checked Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. No gimmicks, just lots of good recipes in plain english.
