I am Muslim and I would really like an explanation to this myself.

Schoony- I am ALREADY SICK and my employer pays my insurance. How is that gambling??? I need it to help cover medical expenses.

Seeking. I have DIABETES, NOT A COLD. It doesn't just 'heal' and go away, it's a chronic potentially life-threatening condition if not treated properly. Alhamdulilah, you don't have it, but that is why you couldn't possibly understand.

Economically, a muslim paid insurance with the money went into a pool or fund investing in the stock markets in various sectors of the economies . It may include Integrated Resort as one of the portfolio. We could interprete it a Haram or prohibited.
Insurance in Islam has a root from our Syaidina Ali which dealt with security in good and services..Health insurance has an ambiguity unless you have given me a clear details.EG. If I'm dead you could take my body parts!?#.

Maximum Bob, I enjoy you very much.

GOD doesn't like charging interest or gambling. Health Insurance agencies invest money and reap interest from it.

Not having health insurance can be a problem but giving into this evil capitalistic practice that destroys the fabric of society (the charging of interest) is even worse.

A state run and funded (by tax dollars) universal health care program would be best.

You are gambling when you have insurance. Even if you have a disease and have the insurance you are gambling because you don't know if you will heal or if you will die the next day without ever using the money you put into it. One might say that somebody else might then go on to use that money BUT we don't know what they will use it on. Not all things covered by insurance are NECESSITIES...so your money could be going to something you as a Muslim don't believe in.

Yes, many do believe it is gambling. There is a difference of opinions however AND if it is required by government (car insurance in America, for example) they have to pay for it.

EDIT: I know a Muslim in a Muslim country that has to pay for it out of his paycheck by law but when his wife had a baby he refused to use it and paid for the healthcare himself, out of his pocket (his savings).

And schonny explained the idea the way some look at it.

To the person below me, it is quite different if the government pays for healthcare. They don't see it as insurance.

Here is a list of Fawa on the issue: http://www.kahf.net/fatawa/FATAWA%20INSURANCE.pdf

I have never heard that health insurance is gambling. I don't think it is because there is no way in the USA that you can get along without health insurance.

I doubt all do. there is a muslim hospital in my state and those doctors are just as expensive as anywhere else. the people there must use insurance and no one is objecting to it.

-they did this on the simpsons with flanders because christians are also against gambling-

I'm not Muslim but if they do believe that they have a point. We're betting we'll get sick and we're hoping paying our premium every month will eventually "pay off". Sounds like gambling to me!!
