I just got a english bulldog puppy. He is 9 weeks old and he has little hair and can almost see his skin. Is this normal? Will he grow into it? SHOULD I BE WORRIED?

He was the runt of the litter. You can only see his skin faintly and ive seen 2 puppys that have had the same problem and they turned out fine. I took him to the vet and they said he was fine i just would like a second opinion.

We breed Bulldogs.
The fact that you have already taken him to the vet rules out (hopefully) mange or a skin condition.
First, it could be stress from the move to your home, was he purchased at a pet store. This would indicate that the breeder could not move his pups and possibly speak negatively of that situation.
Secondly, The fact that he was the runt and wasn't nourished as well as the littermates could be a huge factor. The lactating dam as well as the weaning pups need a higher nutrition than a grown dog and many times this is overlooked by inexperience or neglect by the breeder. I would lean to neglect because you stated that it is a runt. If one isn't fighting strongly, it should be allowed individual feedings so as to prevent runting, unless it is a puppy mill. While we have smaller pups, we never allow the litter to runt one of them.
Easily fixed... purchase some vitamins give the daily reccomended dose 2x daily for 1 week, then resume normal dose at lease 1 yr or life if you choose.
We feed Diamond Performance as we have found it alleviates many common problems with the bulls. Head and shoulders above ANY OTHER feed, except unprocessed meat.
We found this out rather expensively, constantly changing to the newest BEST premium food.....
Add 1-2 Tbsp corn oil to the food for app 2 wk then occasionally afterwards to promote shiny and full coat.
Many may disagree, but remember the lineage... do not throw away your steak fat, give it to Fido to help prevent skin and coat problems. Avoid Lamb as ours have shown neg response with a Lamb based food.
Treat their skin as if it were a newborn baby's when it comes to bath. Baby shampoo and conditioners are good for even a grown dog, though many dog shampoos now are gentle. Condition afterwards. I hope this helps

Be very carefull when bying an English Bulldog. They are a very unhealthy breed. Well-bred Bulldogs will come with a 2 year health guarantee for things like genetic disorders. $600 sounds cheap for a bulldog...they probably aren't registered and haven't had genetic testing done on the adults. Avoid it. The dog doesn't NEED AKC registry, but its more likely they have good quality dogs if they have AKC registered and champion titled dogs.

Well, you shouldn't be able to see his skin - I can understand that his hair is thin. You should take him to the Vet and get him checked out. He could have some kind of mange or just skin allergies. They can tell you more about this and help you get it treated, whatever it may be.

Well, all dogs hair is short- espessially english bulldog puppies. When your dog is young, rub where you can almost see the skin. It will feel real good to them. So, yes, it is normal.

Sometimes it is just a poor diet...chances are that if your vet has said that "it is OK" then it will be...after the next few weeks and the great quality food that you are hopefully giving him...you should start to notice an improvement in the fur...

It's normal on his belly but not really anywhere else.
Did you ask his breeder?? She should know very well what's going on with the health of the pups she's selling. If she can't or won't help you, you bought from the wrong person!
