Thunder is caused by lightning. Lightning produces a magnetic pulse that likely briefly interferes with the power supply to your house. So, I suspect your power supply is reacting to the lightning which occurs prior to the thunder.

Thunder is an audio result of lightening. Lightening is a tremendous electrical charge unleashed by atmospheric conditions thusly causing interference with man made electrical systems. MOTHER NATURE RULES!!!

I agree with dink2925. Lightening is an electrical phenomenon of nature and it frequently interferes with our artificial electrical systems, especially the power transmission grid.
