Eventually, the discomfort should go away. It's just traumatic. As it feels strangeat first. you might have the tendency to irritate it or play with it with your teeth. So restrain yourself. Eventually, it should feel second nature, and you won't be conscious of it anymore. You might want to apply carmax or chloramphenicol on it to relieve the pain.

Hi! I have had patients that complained their tongue piercing hurt for 2 months. I tell them that each person is different and you oral hygiene has alot to do with this. Also you must use a strong mouth wash to keep this clean while it heals.
I have had so many patients with infections I still wonder why people do it. One patient broke 3 teeth and cost him a fortune with root canals and crowns. Be it as it is, you must understand the bacteria in you mouth is unreal. And any lesion or hole in your tongue is a perfect place for it to grow. If you have continual issues, see your dentist for a antibiotic mouthwash and instructions of cleaning the tongue hole and the bar. I make all my patients take it out, brush their tongue, use a rinse and then clean the bar with peroxide and THEN WASH their hands with alcohol before they put it back in their mouths. This has reduce most infections and problems. AS long as you have pain, you have an infection. Simple. Follow these directions and you may be okay. M
