Yes it will change you, as it changes me.
In the Navy(or any branch) you are given responsibility that your piers outside the armed forces are not given.
You are who you are, but you grow as a person. I think everyone should be required to do at least some time in the military.

OF course it changes you does it make a better or worse person that is totaly up to you. When you are in the Navy you find out quite a bit about your self working and non working situations. You find that you can do any thing as long as you put forth the effort. Not sure if your asking will it turn you into a beast or something like that than the answer is no. I did 20yrs and Ret from the Navy and I made the transition back to real world but the Navy gave me the tools to be a better person. I did lots of sea duty have good stories to tell so I am just a normal guy now I am not the same person I was when I was 19 so that is a good thing so you find that you grow up while your in.

You will change to some extent and in some cases, a larger extent. The military is a very dfferent environment to civilian life; first of all, it is a rigid hierarchy and there are the risks, you are responsible for your life and those around you, you are deployed in dangerous environments, etc. The military is also like a shield from civilian restrictions - you are allowed (or allowed to if you're not caught) some liberties civilians are not.

After long years of service, most service people find it difficult to fit back into society though they had spent many years in it before serving. For myself, it took almost 4 years before I could change my ways and character to that of society.

Yes i can say it changes you in some way or another, like for me i leave for basic training at great lakes rtc this week, and i can tell you i feel a whole lot better about myself knowing that i am doing something that everyone can lok up too. So i guess it changed me from thinking lowley of myself to thinking a little bit high about myself.

anyone entering the military service will go through changes. Then when we get out after many years we will undergo changes again. Marriage relationships that are good ones will survive and grow strong. Weak marriages usually do not survive many years in military.

Everyone changes. Its like growing up. When you look back you can't believe what you were like. Its amazing the amount of responsibility you are given after training. Its like growing up at high speed. But your fundamental beliefs change very little.

It is kind of hard to not be changed a bit by being cooped up on a ship for months at sea. It is nothing serious or permanent for most though.

It depends what your individual experience is like. My friends from high school came back after wht they describes as the time of their lives. My fatehr came back from Japan after having been a POW with several screws either loose or missing.
