Breathe-rite strips might be a fast cure. There is an item you can get from a dentist called Silent Night. When the jaw opens and the tongue falls into the back of the throat, the airway narrows forcing air through the small opening. This creates vibrations in the throat known as snoring.

You could also wear earplugs to filter out the noise. If the snorer is keeping you from sleeping, either call out their name or give them a little nudge and request that they sleep on their side which will open up their airways and reduce the snoring.Make an arrangement where you'll go to sleep first and the snorer goes to sleep only after you have fallen asleep. Avoid taking naps during the day which will make you more tired at night and help you fall asleep easier. Exercise during the day so you'll be more tired by the time you go to sleep and will fall asleep faster. Work out a sleeping arrangement where the snorer and you sleep in different rooms.

Try breathe right strips (I think that's what they're called) that go across your nose. Encourage her to sleep on her side if she doesn't already. Address and treat any allergy/sinus problems (btw Sudafed is technically a stimulant - as are most decongestants- and will possibly keep her awake). But most importantly.....*****Get her to a sleep doctor as soon as possible!!!**** She could have apnea which can result in weight gain (very common), brain damage, heart damage and sudden cardiac and/or respiratory arrest resulting in death! I speak from personal experience...my brother went into cardiac arrest at the age of 33 from sleep apnea (no he was not/is not overweight btw)...I have it too and if I don't treat my apnea I am completely nutty...from sleep deprivation due to waking up 40 times an hour during sleep because I stop breathing.

Definitely. I had the same problem with my husband. They sell in any drug store a product called "Breathe Right" nasal strips. They open the nasal passage and reduce snoring. There are also sprays you can use that are also available from your local druggist. If that doesn't work have her talk to her family physician and see if she perhaps has sleep apnea and needs a breathing machine. Kudos to you for caring about her and you wanting a good nights sleep!!

Here are several things to try.

1. Have her elevate her head as much as possible by either sleeping on more than one pillow or else by sleeping on a thicker pillow.

2. Resist the urge to drink alcohol, or take sleeping pills, tranquilizers or antihistamine before you turn in for the night as all of these things have a way of relaxing muscles a great deal, thereby limiting how much air can pass in and out of your lungs.

3. Steer clear of any dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheese or ice cream before bedtime as these foods cause the build-up of mucus in the throat.

4. Sleeping on your side as opposed to your back can help to keep your airways as open as possible.

5. Eat a spoonful of liquid honey before retiring for the night.

6. Try to go to bed at approximately the same time every night.

7. Avoid a big meal before you go to bed because when your stomach is full of food this puts pressure on the diaphragm and thereby limits breathing passages (this is especially the case if you have eaten fatty, fried or starchy food).

8.Stay away from foods considered to be "rich" foods right before bedtime such as pizza, chocolate, cakes and cookies.

9.Lay your head on a firm pillow at night and not a soft one because a soft pillow makes it easier for the muscles in your throat to relax, thereby narrowing the airways.

10.Before turning in for the night inhale steam or else sleep soundly in a room where a humidifier is turned on. This will help keep your throat well lubricated.

11.Consider investing in some anti-snoring pills and/or nasal spray designed as an anti-snoring agent.

12.Buy a package of nasal strips and put them in place before you go to bed at night. Nasal strips help to open up airways and will make sure that plenty of air can be brought into the lungs.

My husband used to snore. Turns out he had a deviated septum. After it was corrected, it made the snoring almost non-existent.

Claim the promise of John 14:14 and ask Jesus to make her stop snoring. If the bible is true this cannot fail.

Have her take a sleep test. Some places will come to your home with the equipment and others make you stay at their place. This way she can find out if she stops breathing at night. Check out the below website:

I feel for you, you really can't, after blacking out a couple of times, I ended the traditional practice, we now sleep in seperate rooms, nothing like getting some sleep

Go to the drug store and get her "Breath right Strips" it is a little patch that you place on your nose at night to help you breath better and when you do, you don't snore...
