Any suggestions about the most effective pepper spray? I have considered 'Sabre', 'Fox', and 'Wildfire'. Is there really a difference? I want to buy some for home protection, in my car, and to have in public. I live in Atlanta, GA and travel between Florida and Tennessee. I know some states have particular laws about pepper spray.

I am not sure about the laws in Georgia, Florida or Tennessee, sorry.

When I was in college, the campus paper did an article on pepper spray. It said that 5% capsicum was police strength (it's been a while, so I don't know if that's still the case). The stuff I had was 5%, and I got it from an Army Navy store, I think. I have never had to use it, but a friend got sprayed with some by someone messing around with some. Fortunately, his ear got hit and nothing else, but he said it was pretty awful.

Some years after college there was a news reprot where one of the anchors allowed himself to get sprayed by many things to test their effectiveness. He was sprayed with mace, pepper gas, and a pepper gas tear gas combo. I believe the mace hurt, but he could keep going if he wanted to. The pepper gas left him in pretty bad shape. The pepper gas tear gas combo was the most effective. I have no idea the legality of something like that anymore due to the tear gas in it, but if you're looking for effective that seemed to be it. Just check on the laws for that one. With the pepper gas, get as high a capsicum percentage as law allows.

I considered pepper spray but decided to purchase a stun gun instead.

Down side to pepper spray - you have to aim in their eyes (only target) and it can be blown back at you.

I purchased a Small Fry 900,000 mini stun gun (got it online). The down side is I have to make contact with you for it to work. But it's got a mean bite and will bite through your clothing. I'm not restricted to just having your eyes as a target - I can make contact with any part of you.

I have no idea what the law on carrying it is - but I'm betting airports and court houses are out!

I use Freeze plus P. It is not a pepper spray. It is CS gas and is for Law Enforcement use only. Works too! I had to use it on 3 Asian girls that tried to jump me... talk about effective!

People who eat a lot of chiles or who home-cook and home-can chiles are freuently immune to the stuff.....if you spray it into the wind, it gets you, not the attacker......a better solution is a small can of hairspray. works the same, if not better....cheaper, 1000% legal, AND they don't get all freaked out when they see you lift it outta your purse.

Most of it will work no matter the brand. But keep in mind it won't be effective against everyone. Some people seem to be immune to it.
