More importantly, how can Christianity and Islam be serving the same God if they both make contradictory claims about who Jesus was?

Christianity says Jesus was God born in human flesh who died on a cross to pay for the sins of humanity.

Islam says Jesus was a prophet, not God, and that he did not die on a cross, and that you must atone for your own sins by following the 5 pillars.

They are contradictory and cannot be the same!

They aren't the same... they aren't both true. Jesus claimed to be God, not a prophet. To say that Jesus was a "great" teacher or a prophet is 100% wrong. How can you say that anyone claiming that they are God is a good teacher? They would be a lunatic, or a liar (neither of which make a good teacher). That never made sense to me, the teacher or prophet theory.
So, Islam worships the same God the Father that Christians do... but they are still waiting for the messiah (Jesus) to come. They all weren't happy with Jesus, so they are waiting for someone else I guess. In their case they think it is ok to wait because according to their beliefs, as long as they follow Torah (Old Testament) law then they will go to Heaven.
That sucks for anyone who isn't Jewish though, because there was no OT salvation for us. Jesus did that for us, for all of us.
The FACT that Jesus died on the cross is not up for debate. Jesus is the most documented figure in all of history and His story (whether you believe it or not) can be found in every cultural writing from that time. How can they explain that? By saying he was a proohet? No dice- the historical writings show that He was on trial because He claimed to be God which went against Jewish law. It's all there... get "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel.

I can't go into depth to explain it
but both these religions are
serving the same God...Jah
The reason for this is they
are both the children of
Abraham. Only it is not the
Christians, but the Jews that
are the cousins of the Arabic
nations. You would have to
read the life of Abraham to
understand.
It is such a shame that they
both are related by blood and
still hate each other so much.
Islam does not acknowledge
Jesus as the Son of God, but
reveres him as a Great
Prophet. The Orthodox
Jews do not believe Jesus to
be the Son of God.

They can't be, the only reason that some claim they are true is because they want their own ways, not the truth! Either one is true and one is not or they are both wrong, but they cannot both be true, example: If I am 28 years old and I get 2 people to guess my age one person says 30 the other 18 could they both be right? No!!!! one could be right one could be wrong or both could be wrong as in this case but they could only be right if the both say the right age 28!the only thing they have in common is that they are close to the age but one is closer than the other therefore in this case they are both wrong! Two wrongs do not make a right no matter how much they want their guess to be right, but they can both be wrong.

There are many contradictory religious beliefs. There is no way to determine which are absolutely true and which are not. Nor are they debatable with logic, due to variances in interpretation. The translation of religious text is left to the discretion and interpretation of the translator. Provided a religion instills goodness in a person, it should be respected, whether or not it agrees with another person's religion. As to which is "true", Christianity or Islam...they both are.

This is one of those roblems I have with groups such as Unity that believe all religions are the same and have equal validity. The only way this is true is if they are equally false and is an insult to each religion by discounting all differences and lumping them all together

If two religions make contradictory claims, they can both be true because they are both true SEPARATELY to the two religions. Your statements may be true to YOU, but to another religion, their contradictory statement is true to THEM....whether they are RIGHT or not is another story---and since beliefs are OPINIONS and opinions can neither be RIGHT OR WRONG, then you believe to be true whatever YOU want---and to you it IS true and the same holds for someone from a differing religion... they believe whatever THEY want to believe is true and to THEM, it IS true.. regardless of whether or not it contradicts with someone else's religion....

don't be so busy with their contradictions, just do what you think is true.coz no matter what explanations there could be every religion has their own and sometimes contradicting beliefs.what matters is that each one of us has given a mind to think and believe on what we think is true.

They cannot be serving the same God. All Christianity does not teach that Jesus and God are one and the same. In fact the bible teaches that Jesus is God's son and that he came to benefit mankind. It tells us that he died on a stake not a cross. It was common at that time for humans to be executed on a stake. A study of the words used for stake and the practices at that time reveal these things, also refer to your bible. The bible speaks of Jesus's own people who were originally chosen at that time, the Isralites (Jews) who did not accept him as being the son of God, he was rejected by his own people. All of these things were recorded for our benefit and some prophecy was foretold hundreds of years before they actually occurred. How is that for evidence? The miracles and powerful acts that he performed speak for themselves.

These are very deep questions that everyone must consider for themselves. There is one God, one Jesus, and one bible. So why are there so many different religions? The bible itself warns that you must not follow the traditions of men. Many religions adopt practices into their religion because it is to their benefit to do so, or to keep from losing members, or to be able to practice what ever it is that they want to practice. The bible is what it is, it is the word of God, and since it tells us that within it is everything we need to know to teach, reprove, or correct, then that is where we need to look. A serious search for truth, and a personal study of our own, is what can give us answers. Prayerful request to God for a clean concience and that he might help us to determine for ourself these answers. Pray for holy spirit while there is still time to do so.

If there are so many different religions, who do you think is behind the lies and misconstrued beliefs? Who is it that challenged God and said that the only reason man serves him is because he put a hedge around them, protects them, inferring that the only reason they will serve him is for what they can get, not our of love. Satan said these things about faithful Job saying, take everything away from him and see if he will serve you. Job remained faithful and his example is there for us to read and meditate on.

God has promised to put and end to all the things we must endure and that time is fast approaching. God cannot lie, he is the father of truth, and Satan is the father of the lie. The bible tells us Satan was a manslayer when he began. Does someone with this jeering attitude who uses a snake to talk for him and lures innocent people into sin, saying, "Will they serve you?" to the creator of the universe and everything in it, including Satan himself, really have your best interest at heart? God sent his only son to die for us because he loved us, no greater love does anyone have, which one would you want to serve? You cannot have two masters the bible teaches, you will love one and hate the other. So each one must choose, there is no middle ground or safe place to just be who you are and not worry about it thnkinig you are OK. Each one must be accountable for himself and that day will come when you must stand before the son of man. No, no one is perfect but to put faith in the ransom sacrifice it takes more than just saying it, it takes action on our part. We must chose in everything we do and say every day of our life and live by truth. The way to do that is by acquiring bible knowledge and learning about God, what he requires and what is pleasing to him. He created us and knows what is best for us, what makes us happy and is for our own good.

Here is a link to some publications available, and one of them I especially think you would like is, "Mankinds Search For God." This book covers many different religions including Islam and I think you will find it interesting.

2 Peter 1:19-21 says

19 Consequently we have the prophetic word [made] more sure; and YOU are doing well in paying attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and a daystar rises, in YOUR hearts. 20 For YOU know this first, that no prophecy of Scripture springs from any private interpretation. 21 For prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.
