About six months ago, i tried to get into the Navy to try to become a SEAL. When i got to MEPS, i discovered that i had a hearing problem in one ear that was severe enough that i couldnt get into the military without getting it waivered. They told me there is a chance i could into the Navy with a waiver but no chance of becoming a SEAL. So i didnt go back because all i wanted was to be a SEAL. But now im thinking about trying to get into the Marines. My question is, do you think i could? I hear about 1/4 of what i should in my left ear, but the right ear is perfect. and i hear fine. Would it be possible to get that waivered to join the Marines. and if i did get in could i be infantry? And would there ever be a chance of becoming RECON or Scout/Sniper? thanx for all your help.

The medical standards are the same for all branches of the armed forces. So, if a hearing deficit disqualified you from enlisting in the Navy, it will have the same effect for the Marines. The link below is for the Medical Standards For Fitness. Read those contained in Chapter 2.

While you may get a waiver to enlist. any of the specail forces units will be off limits, the same as the SEALS. Those men are in perfect physical shape in every way. A hearing loss in those jobs could lead to serious safety issues for everyone involved. I can't say anything about infantry, but agree the best thing to do is speak to a recruiter.

The Marine Corps has a waiver for just about everything you can imagine and im sure you could join, although I must admit I am no expert on the prerequisites of infantry/recon/scout snipers.A recruiter would be happy to talk to you and could give you more detailed information, ask there

Yea you most likely can get a waiver. The only way to find out is to go to a recruiter. It will never happen if you never try. Just like you never get a job if you never apply for a job.

I don't know in actuality, but at 1/4 I have some doubt since that's a pretty significant hearing loss.

Marines Infantry. Yes.

RECON and Scout Sniper. Sadly, no. You can try, but I highly doubt it.

Sorry bro.
