why would anyone continue to put up with microsoft's pile of garbage, when there are much better alternatives out there like linux and mac os?

For good spyware and anti-virus, you need to pay more money, and then you have to use more resources running those programs.
With linux or mac, you really don't need that extra software because it's not vulnerable like windows. And then you don't have a bunch of extra software running, taking up your cpu and memory.

I was an Apple/macintosh guy back in the day...But then I replaced a floppy drive in my niece's PC, it cost $8.00 and took 10 minutes; replacing my Mac's floppy was expensive major surgery! The next time I wanted to upgrade my Mac, I avoided bankruptcy and instead I built a PC! Have never looked back! Whenever I see severe software issues, I just reinstall Windows (with about the same frequency as I used to reinstall Mac OS, until XP -- which I haven't had to reinstall for about a year).

AVG is a Canadian outfit that provides excellent anti-virus and anti-spyware for PC, provided free to individual users (they make their money on the corporate side.)

My mother is an E-mail hound and always getting ton of viruses. I rarely do email and have no problems. I also use Firefox as a browser.

Unlike you, the MAJORITY of people know how to use antivirus and antispyware products and run regular checks. My last PC had xp pro and I didn't format it for over 4 years. Ran like a dream.

because windows is the most compatable with anything including viruses, that's y they keep up with that crab. I just have one becuase the availability and since it's compatable with many things

idk how people get vireses, spyware and adware unles they rly dont kbow how to use a computer, or go to shady sites, or use p2p file sharing programs. i have never got spyware, adware, or vireses on my windows box. i switched to mac osx and never went back, it is much better.
