I have a puppy weighing 27 lbs. She jsut got spayed today and I was wondering if I can give her baby aspirin. She looks like she's in alot of pain and I want to help her feel better. The vet didn't say whether or not they gave her pain medication. They did give me amoxicilain to give to her starting Monday. Will it hurt her in any way to give her that baby aspirin?

1st call your vet and ask about pain management. You can give a dog baby aspirin - make sure it is aspirin and not tylenol or ibuprophen. Those will kill a dog. My vet has me give my 50 pound, 13 year old Belgian Sheepdog, 1 baby aspirin every 8 hours when her arthritis acts up. So for your 27 lb girl, it will only be about a half. Ascripton is another pain medication that can be safely given to dogs. Good luck.

Yes,you can give her two 81 mg. enteric coated aspirin (Ecotrin or the generic equivalent.) I would give them to her twice a day, with food, but make sure to use only the enteric coated because they will not upset the puppy's stomach. Also, why is she taking amoxicillin for a routine spay, and why are you to wait until Monday to start it? Was she given an injection of antibiotics at the vet? My vet puts all drugs given on the bill.

A fraction of an aspirin, NOT a whole one, based on weight. Consult your vet. Dogs and cats metabolize aspirin more slowly than humans, which means they can sustain a toxic effect from a dose.

Call your vet.

Um......u really shouldnt. Its not healthy to give dogs people things especially medicine. It can poison them and even cause failures in their body.

Ask the vet what kind of pain reliver you can give her.Or give er some treats and a nice place to sleep. It will take her mind off the pain.=]

good luck to you and your pup.=]

DON'T try it! Do not do ANYTHING without consulting it with your vet. The chemicals in baby aspirin could potentially harm your puppy, and could weaken her immune system, probing her to catch illness. Call your vet and ask him for any medicine that she could take.

They probably gave her pain medication, they usually do. Call your vet and ask for a script. People meds and doggy meds aren't the same most of the time, so what works for us can make them sick if we're not careful.
