My wife (she'll be a permanent resident alien) will be coming to USA next week and we're planning to go to Canada soon. She won't have her greencard for a few months. Is it possible to travel to Canada with only her Indian passport (it would have the US visa affixed on it with the alien number I presume).

the visa information on her passport will be enough for her to go out and come back to the US. you will just need to open the passport to the page that shows her US permanent resident visa.

while she doesn't yet have her green card, the type of visa that is indicated on her passport will be enough to show her status in the US.

that will be explained by the border official who will check her papers when she enters the US... as what happened to me also. the border official told me that while waiting for my green card, the visa information on my passport will be enough for the officials to grant me entry back again into the US if i travel out of the country.

despite what the other answerer said about canada not caring what type of visa you have in the US... there is an exception. they DO care if you have a permanent resident.

i don't think so because when you are crossing back over they ask for the id card and if the passport is for her to come to the US she can get in trouble for leaving the US....she needs to have the permanent resident card to come back in
