I use fresh step litter and also a box of baking soda every time I change the litter box. I scoop it out every day and add additional litter three times a week.

How often should I do a complete change of litter? The reason I ask is because there's hardly any odor after a month.

Since you are using a clumping litter and you scoop every day, changing the box about once a month is going to be just right. It is all going to depend... on your cat's preferences, how often they go, etc. If your cat is not going outside the box, then what you have been doing is obviously working for him. You can tell by how dirty the litter looks and the smell if it needs to be changed. However, I would not let it go longer than four weeks because as we know cats have a stronger sense of smell than humans. So while the box may not smell bad to you, your cat might disagree and start doing naughty things...

if you keep doing what your doing now then you won't need do a complete change until it starts to smell badly or the cat comes down with diarrhea or makes a mess on the sides.

i clean my cats litter box in the morning and before bed. i add additional litter each week. i use scoop away, i personally don't care for fresh step. and i also use a cheap filler litter. i mix them together. if the sides get dirty i use Clorox wet wipes to clean the sides.

it is now the third month i have been doing this. the filler litter is starting to smell and so i plan a full cleaning for the weekend. litter is not cheap and this has worked well for me.
i hate the thought of all that litter going to waste.
so as long as i keep it very clean it stays good for a long time.
good luck.

Aw... I am so sorry about your cat getting cancer, that is so sad! =( I clean my cat's litter box daily because the litter box is actually really small. I should disinfect his litter box once a week, but I don't do it that frequently.

I tend to do a complete clean, every 2-4 weeks, depending on how dirty the box seems to look. Move the litter around, and see if the pan is dirty or not. Odor shouldn't be the only factor into why you completely clean the box.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
