Usually when giving reasons for why god does not stop all the murders, rapes and destruction that happens on this planet the answer is usually along the lines of "god has given us the freedom to make these choices" or something to that effect (which i find very funny, you can have a serial killer start praying and be forgiven and let into heaven yet you can have someone who has helped people all of their life but doesent believe in god so they go straight to hell)

But anyway my point is, if god created the earth to let us be free and make our own choices and live our lives etc etc why does he feel the need to drop hurricanes and earthquakes on our a**?? That seems pretty cruel to me? We all have to follow him because he sacrificed his son for us, yet he's sacrificing millions of peoples sons, daughters, monthers, fathers etc etc??

And don't just say he's testing us, it's not much of a test to have a 3 week old baby sleeping while a hurricane is tearing through it's bedroom

Some are caused by God. Some are the devil trying to destroy. Some are put in motion by God to keep the earth in balance. How to determine: If an area is being judged because of unrepentance and has been warned, then it is judgement. If an area is under these things because of an attack of satan to destroy, then it can be stopped with prayer. However, we need to remember God set an ordered world and these things, particularly hurricanes help the earth maintain balance. Earthquakes are from tectonic plates rubbing. Volcanoes help the earth vent pressure. So, it depends on the cause.

Leave God alone. Leave Satan alone. Neither have much direct input concerning the earth and the personal lives of individuals. Quit being controlled by the fear of a hell. There is no hell and there is no sin. Yet, there is a God and there is an afterlife. Live and experience and always try to do the right thing according to your conscience. Existence is eternal. This small speck of time on this earth is just a little training time and an element of experience for the next stage of eternal progression. Relax. Leave God alone.

Because, we look for gods in outer space and heaven, yet we never look here on earth. Doesn't the quote, "I think, therefore I am," mean anything to you? Why can't a conscious being have created himself with his own thoughts? How come nothing can't be alive, forming th first primitive thoughts, evolving into planets? Why can't thoughts be creative?! I don't see why this is so hard to understand, seeing that this is what created us!!

I'm sorry, I get so sick of the taunts and threats being passed throughout this section. Why can't we respect each others beleifs and tolerate and live in coexistance?
Sigh... I can't help but wonder... Where are we?

Whoever set the physical laws in place on the earth and throughout the universe, those laws of Nature are what cause hurricanes and earthquakes. If you want to believe in a god that does that kind of micro-management, then I can't help you. But to me, Mother Nature is a rather demanding goddess at times. Still, recall that anything that does not kill you makes you stronger, so perhaps it is Mother Nature's way of making us stronger. Or those of us who survive the ordeal, anyway.

The only reasonable answer is that god did not create the earth, or did not have much control over its creation. Was it Hawking or some other smart guy that suggested, perhaps god came up with the physics/equations/laws that govern the world, and then rest of the universe follows those laws.

Why do you blame God for every autrocity and normal occurrence like hurricanes and earthquakes. The scientists,, many do believe in God, can explain the movements of the earth plates, and what happens when we have hurricanes. Do some more research on weather. It's very interesting.

They are curses in response to sin.

In regard to salvation, which child would you cherish more? The one who made mistakes in life but came back to you and loved you dearly? Or a child that rejected you until the day of your death and simply tried to live good by his own standards?

We live a cursed life. Sin brought about death itself. Which is worse? A hurricane? Or death itself?

Has nothing to do with God...but with Nature, piss HER off...we're all screwed, Nature does not discrimminate, no child, man, or woman is safe from her fury...as for God...pishah! It's all a test for the believers probably, to see how far their faith can hold against all the ******** that the people of this world has to deal with...or something....but the only higher power that I believe in is Nature...

It sounds to me like you don't believe in God and yet you give him credit for "acts of God" (insurance terminology for natural disasters)...I find that funny.

If you believe in him, you have to accept that there are many parts of his plan we don't understand. Furthermore, you have to accept that some if not all of the things we blame God for creating may in fact be our own creation. Do you know for sure that man's decision to sin didn't create a huge desert in Africa that results in dust storms that cross the ocean and influence the development of hurricanes. The bible makes it clear that the earth changed as a result of Adam and Eve's sin...perhaps tornados, earthquakes, and all these other acts of God are really natural consequences of changes in the earth caused by man's disobedience?

...and then there is chaos theory...if a butterfly flaps its wings in Singapore, we get tornados in Kansas...perhaps the original decision to eat the apple (to disobey God) set in motion a series of events that led to chaos reigning on this planet for all time.

...and what about the possibility that satan is the one that causes hurricanes and tornados and earthquakes?

Satan, natural phenomena a result of sin, act of God, you just can't know that. In fact, it is possible that without God's intervention, all these natural disasters would be a lot worse. Revelation talks of earthquakes and other disasters that kill hundreds of thousands of people...perhaps that destruction is the result of God removing his protection from the earth in the end times and he is really responsible for the hundreds of thousands of people today that are NOT killed by all manner of disasters.

To put it simply, I don't know why people die from natural disasters nor do I understand why people choose to murder each other...if you want to assume that it is because God doesn't exist or that he doesn't care about us, that's your choice of course...but your assumption is no different from mine...both assume facts not in evidence (and that can't ever be placed into evidence).

My faith allows me to accept that God isn't cruel or unjust and that bad things happen for a reason I can't know or understand. Natural consequences of sin, influence of an enemy of God, a demonstration of God's anger for something we have done??? No way to know...but why choose to believe the worst?
