is it best to have military experiance or a bachelors degree?

Good lord, some of you people are seriously jilted and skewed in your views. Why not just answer his question with facts instead of opinions.
Military experience AND a bachelors degree will help you. Having an associates degree however will still get you the same pay scale (scale 2) as a bachelors degree.
Progressing through the ranks once you're in has nothing to do with your military experience and having a degree has a small influence on being promoted. Your attitude and how well you do your job is what you need to be concerned about.

Okay so this is what you do bro. Join the Army reserves, you will make a much better police officer and you will BREEZE by training. Plus, you will have a 100% easier time getting accepted into LAPD, and the study habits they teach you, well LAPD training/tests wont be anything to you, easy peezy lemon squeezy's. Be a police officer, but dont be a d!ck (Kinda inevitable being a California copper) . Be an honorable person and when your country needs you, you go.

If you can prove to them that you have committed a violent hate crime against a black person, or at least use the n word on a regular basis, the LAPD will hire you in an instant and probably promote you right away.

I hope you like the feel of racism and corruption, not to mention a Big Blue Wall of Silence toward brutality and police misconduct. If you do, you'll fit right in.
Sorry, but as an L.A. resident, I can tell you that the L.A.P.D. is a very corrupt police force.
They need to be purged.
