Sure. It is our form of communication directly to God the Father, anytime, any place. Even a best friend would resent being gotten out of bed at 3:00 a.m. if we woke him or her up and wanted to talk: maybe not the first or second time, but eventually, it would happen.
God is there for us ALL the time, regardless of the hour and the need. Our prayers are not just of the "wishing well" mentality either. They can simply be confirmations of reassurances of what God has already set into motion anyway. We are just coming around to His way of thinking and His way of doing things which, blessedly for us, is completely different from the way we would handle it. Praise Him and pray without ceasing!

I've been a Christian all my life - up until just a few months ago. I prayed every night. Some things came true, and those things made me believe it worked. Some things didn't, and I either didn't think about them or figured it was "God's will". I haven't prayed in a little less than a year, and the same percentage of bad and good things have happened. If anything, more good things have happened because of my realization that I control my life and I need to lead it where I need to go. Once I stopped assuming there was something to fallback on, I actually became more confident. I don't argue that the placebo effect, or whatever prayer does works in many people, and they should keep doing what gives them hope. But if there is a God, he already has a life set up for you, and praying to him isn't going to do anything.

People who mistake prayer for a means of getting from God, are not going to believe in the power of prayer at all. Why? Because God can and does say no. We pray so that we may be aligned with his will, not to align him with ours. How arrogant would it be for me to expect God to just drop everything and do what I want him to do? I do believe in the power of prayer. It has the power to transform my thinking, my will, my level of understanding, and sometimes I even get what I ask for. The reality of it though, is that when I do get what I asked for, it was what God was going to do in the first place. God does not change his mind. In order for someone to change their mind, they need to be provided with new information, or shown where their plan of action was incorrect. God being God precludes either of those scenarios, and so the power of prayer is not so much to effect the external, but the internal. In that respect, it is powerful indeed.

Yes I believe in the power of prayer because I've gotten results from prayer, people I know have gotten results from prayer and the Holy Scriptures teach that there is power in prayer.

James 5:16......... The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

Absolutely, God answers all prayers, the answer he gives may not always be the answer we want, but he still answers just the same. Anyone who does not believe that there is a God, and that he does not answers prayers, is fooling him/herself. God is the ultimate unseen power, creator of all things. God knows everything about every single one of us, he even knows the exact amount of hair we have on our heads. With all of his power and abilities, I'd say prayer answering is not a difficulty for him.

Prayer as is praying to gods? Not really.

I do, however, believe in the power of concentration and personal meditation.

Prayer is the only line of communication with God. I believe in prayer because I personally seen its power.

I want to believe in prayer but in my heart of hearts I don't. Like, someone close to me has brain cancer and I wanted people to pray for him, but in the end, is it going to help? I understand some will say things happen for a reason, but then that just means prayers are useless cuz things are going to happen in their own time anyway, right? Maybe the only right prayer is to do God's work to the best of our abilities.

It has seemed to work for me in the past.

I'm sure that other people will call it a coincidence, but I have had my prayers answered.

Besides, one does not just pray just to get free stuff from God. One prays for various reasons, and most medical practitioners will admit that regular prayer/meditation reduces stress and keeps your blood pressure down.

I do not believe in the power of prayer because prayer is superstition. Praying for something to happen has no effect on events.
