You can take an oath but not swear on the bible. They have provisions for all belief systems, even atheists.

You do have to make some sort of solem promise to tell "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth", but swearing is not required. Certainly you are not required to swear by any deity you do not believe in, just as Christians are not forced to swear on the Koran, and Muslims are not forced to swear on the Bible.

Some religions prohibit swearing at all. Yes, I know that profanity is not required: some religions, especially some Christian denominations, forbid taking oaths at all. In such a circumstance, the individual can affirm (simply say "Yes") when asked if they will tell the truth.

That is how it is in America. Good luck in another country!

The oath in a court is now a joke and means nothing.

You can choose between an oath or an affirmation. I can never work out which is which .. but one of them doesn't require a book.

You just have to swear to tell the truth. No belief or non belief is required.
