We all know about the endless torture but heaven is, well... kinda vague. How does that work?

Madlion, we'd all be interested exactly where in the Bible you get your description of Hell.

Chapter and verse. In your own time.

Because the churches found it more effective to threaten people into believing than promising eternal bliss.

I have to say, that is a very good question. I noticed that myself years ago as a younger Christian. The Lord Himself speaks very little on the topic of heaven. In fact, there are far less Scripture verses on God's love than there are on judgement. This is not a bad thing because the Lord loves you so very much! So much so that He spoke at greater lengths on hell because He absolutely does not want you or anyone else to go there. In first Corinthians 2:9 the Lord promises us "no eye hath seen, no ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him." Love Him, and you won't be disappointed....I promise.

It describes the city of G-D in Revelations, but the beauty no man can imagine some people that have had near death experiences have experienced both heaven and hell, the flowers sing the praises of the Lord as they sway, everyone will have their own house their will be no more pain or crying, the joy of being in his presents well be indescribable. The Bible says " Eyes have not seen, nor ear heard or even entered into the minds of man, the things that G-D has for those that love him" Can't waite.

Your Right!
Revelation 21and 22- In reference to Heaven. 11.)It states how it has glory of God as the light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal... great walls, 12 gates, and 12 angels at the gates.
18.)The city is as pure Gold.
Much, much more in there do you want the hell verses to??
Its quite simple some hell references are in Revelation 20.

Good question.

Can I add to it? Is it really Christians that are tell us a lot about what Hell will be like, yet have much less info on Heaven?

In my view it is the "so called Christians" that just love to go about telling all they are Christians in a self judgment position who are doing all the talking about heaven and hell. The real Christians are too busy asking their God to repair their faults and to have mercy on them for they know they do not deserve heaven.

I'm not sure what a lot of people are going to say but in my studies I have seen references to God's promise put in terms of immediate salvation and righteousness, which sort of deemphasizes Heaven as an afterlife construct. Closeness to God is what is depicted in the scriptures as the positive outcome of a relationship with Jesus. Alternatively, people read graphic passages in Revelations that, if taken literally, describe a place and situation in a different way.

Because the Bible talks about hell more than heaven. ;}

I dont think its so much that we know the details of hell. It's more like we have the answers to not end up there and cant see why anybody wouldnt want to do anything they had to to ensure their eternal welfare.

If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. -Revelation 20:15

For the same reason that political attack ads are more effective than ads touting your candidate's strengths.

People are much more interested in the things that threaten them than the things that please them. Why do you think murder mysteries are so popular?

Therefore, Christians are interested in the things that they are trying to avoid (and taunt us atheists with) than the pleasantness of their heaven. I can tell you that heaven's glory is almost never mentioned from the pulpit...but the torture of Hell is offered frequently as a warning.

The other guy has pointed to it. The Stick must be always larger than the Carrot. Religion makes the lives of its inmates so miserable that ANY positive change needs only the briefest of references. "It's heaven, dude, trust me!" is usually enough.
