Hi Fairly Sweet

Here are some ideas to use to heal the condition.

Treat Both Ears: The simple, old-fashioned aids are sometimes very fast in giving relief. Always treat both ears, even if only one aches.

1.Garlic: When my little girl had an earache I put a piece of fresh garlic in her ear and it was better by morning. The previous alternative was to go to the doctor and pay a lot of money for penicillin.

2. Onion: Lightly bake a large onion, cut it in half and while warm (not hot enough to irritate the area), bind one half of the onion over each ear. Bandage in place and hold bandage on with a nightcap, white skullcap, etc., and leave on all night.

3.Camomile: Use a fomentation over both ears of three parts of camomile and one part of lobelia. Take two ounces orally (a wineglass full) each two waking hours. Leave the fomentation on the ears all night. (Cover fomentation with plastic or oiled silk, etc.).

4. Mullein: Use three to six drops of mullein oil in both ears several times each day. Insert it upon retiring for the night, and, as before, plug the ears with cotton. Place a fomentation over the ears all night of three parts mullein and one part lobelia.

Best of health to you

i'm sorry your dad is so sick. I know it's miserable when you can't hear.

I would take my dad to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor and hear his recommendation. If they recommend basicly the same things the other dr.s recommended, I would inquire about getting tubes installed. My son had a chronic ear and hearing problem as a child. Finally, we got tubes. The doctor said that there was this milky, gluey white substance in his inner ear and that he'd probably never have gotten away from that infection, no matter how many antibiotics he ingested.

In general, I think it's good to use antihistamines with decongestants, like sudafed because that brings down the swelling in the sinuses (which are connected to the inner ear).

I'm not a doctor and I don't really know what to tell you beyond what I've already said. I'm sorry.

Take care,

I would go to a different doctor! Your dad sounds like he needs a specialist. Not all infections are caused by bacteria, and antibiotics will be totally useless if it is not bacterial.
Have your dad go to an ENT (Ears, Nose and Throat doc). They may need to culture your dad's ear to find out what is causing the infection. I know someone who had a fungal infection (pseudonomas) that they got from swimming. The type of treatment is with an anti-fungal medicine.
Did your dad get the infection after swimming?

I think an ENT is trained and they see all sorts of ear infections. No tea or natural remedy is going to take away the infection--
Good Luck

If it is truly a middle ear infection, than it is obviously viral because you have said that antibiotics have not helped. This is how I would (and have many times) treat it:
1. A decongestant such as pseudoephedrine (eg:Sudafed... the plain stuff that makes you drowsy, take as instructed on the box) to reduce the amount of secretions that are building up and causing the pressure.
2. An anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen (eg: Motrin) will reduce the inflammation that has caused the drainage of the ear via the Eustachian tube to stop.
3. Some acetaminophen (eg:Tylenol) for and discomfort that the ibuprofen does not take care of (yes, you can safely take both Tylenol and Motrin, they are different medications)
4. Do everything you would do if you had a miserable cold... rest, lots of clear fluids and a good diet to try to boost your immune system so it can beat the virus that is likely causing all of this.

PS- all of the above mentioned medications are available over-the-counter.

an ear infection is just a common side effect of the cold the small tube connecting the ear and the nose becomes blocked causing earaches moisture and presure builds up in the ear causing an ear infection.
there is a way to cure this with some onions or garlic. the onion solution is simply warming up the onion juice and using it as an ear drop. You can also warm up two garlic cloves in a couple of teaspoons of mustard oil until the oil turns black. Once it is cool, this oil can then be used as a simple home remedy for ear infection.

Well I don't know if this would work or not, but it helps with the pain. I use to get ear infections, and clogged ears all the time when I was little. Take a regular metal table spoon, pour baby oil into it, hold it on one of the stove burners to heat it up, pour it into the ear and let it sit with a cotton ball on the end so nothing comes out. It should drain the ear, and take away the pain. Hope it helps. Good luck.

If your Dad has had this ear infection for weeks now and has already been to 2 doctors, I don't think any home remedy or anything you could buy at the drugstore would help. At this point I'd say your Dad needs to make an appt with an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and have them look at his ear. I would also ask that a CT scan or MRI be done. Good luck!

try pouring some peroxide in his ear and have him keep his head tilted for a little bit. it should foam up. then have him tilt his head to let it drain and wipe out excess. you can do this a couple of times a day.

peroxide is all they use in a regular docs office to clean out the ears.

I use this for my entire family and thank goodness no one has had to be treated for an ear infection since.

In the mean time I would suggest scheduling an appointment with an ENT.

Good luck.

I think he should see an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist. I had a middle ear infection and my ear exploded and I ended up needing a tiny tube inserted in my ear so it could drain itself propaly.

my husband is a chiropractor and an acupuncturist and there is a way to adjust the ear to get the fluid causing the infection to move out of there. it may take more than one visit but he has helped a lot of children avoid ear tubes.
good luck!
