I paid about $1400 for my photographer. That included 8 hours of his time, A dvd of all the photos with a release form so I can print anywhere and a $200 credit toward professional prints. (THe professional prints are very expensive.)

Depends where you are and how in-demand your photographer is. Ours is charging $650 in Chicago for three hours. Our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception are all at the same location, so she's coming about an hour before the ceremony to take the posed photos, some photos after the ceremony, and more at the cocktail hour. We had a little trouble finding a photographer who was willing to work just a couple of hours. With the current photojournalistic style that includes following the bride around all day (OMG!), many wedding photogs won't take less than a full-day assignment. We went to an event photographer rather than a wedding photographer, and got a better deal, I think.

Depending on where you are, you may be able to get several hours or all day for that. A local pro in my area charges $650 for unlimited coverage and includes 20 8x10 prints. Of course, he makes his money on reprint and album sales, as he does not release the files. Some areas will cost more than others. Look around and examine websites and talk to your local photographers.

My photographer is charging me $3,500 for 10 hours, including a coffee table album... so for $1,500 you should definitely be able to get at least 2 hours of photography

yeah definaetly! the major money comes in for the albums so it's easy to work out what you want based on time and number of prints
i am getting my house pics, ceremony, reception, and 3 albums by one of the best photographers in our area for $3000. So you should DEFINATELY be able to get what you want for that. Shop around you area

I suggest you posting your request for a photography on craigslist. I did that and found a local girl who did it for $100 a hr and did an awesome job.

my god...I find it hard to believe anyone would pay that kind of money for a photographer. my family took pictures at my wedding and they look just as nice as my friends who go them done. actaully, mine look like wedding photos rather then a photo shoot for a bridal magazine. I would never pay $1000 to look like barbie and ken. anyways...yeah...for that price you should be able to get a photographer.

No matter where you are, it should be a third of that cost at least. The time isn't what's expensive, it's the prints!
