Of course. Psychology is the study of the mind/psyche...where do you think the soul resides?
Compassion is not just sympathy or empathy. It goes further, in that there is an understanding of WHY?
Example: In the original cartoon story of the "Grinch That Stole Christmas" we only see the Grinch, his horrible behavior, and his reformation. In the movie with Jim Carey, we begin to understand WHY he became a Grinch in the first place.
Psychology is understanding the WHY of behavior, learning, and being human.
I will add, that my definition of God is not the common Christian definition. God is expansive, unable to be confined to the limitations of any religion.

If God is a psychologist, then he must've got his degrees online from a college advertised on the back of a matchbook. If there is a God, I'm pretty convinced that he's incompetent.
