Some ferrets will take longer to correct than others; it really depends on their situation. Nipping or biting can range to all kinds of causes from the basic "playful kit nip" to the "I've been abused bite." Ferrets usually never bite without a reason; some may have been abused badly or not socialized, or even bad breeding can play a role. Whatever the reason is, it can be corrected with a lot of patience, time and love. A common way to correct ferrets from nipping or biting is to scruff them and give them a firm "NO." You don't need to yell or scream; that may only scare the ferret. After a while, you can usually drop the scruffing part and correct the ferret with just the firm "NO." If that does not work, then you can try spraying bitter apple on your hands. And remember, never spray bitter apple in their mouths

Did you get the ferret as a baby? That is a little known important step in training ferrets, you really need to get them as a baby to train easily and properly.

My brother has had two ferrets, Mischief was a doll. She was fun, frisky, loved to play, and never bit. He got her as a baby.

His other ferret didn't stay long enough to name because he got as a junior and it was very difficult to train and bit his kids. We talked to some experts at a local breeders and they said getting as baby was the best thing, because they really only take to one master.

Once they have bonded with a breeder or pet store employee, they will be very hard to train by a stranger. Hope this helps!

They often don't realize they hurt us when they do that,so it's a problem.

DO NOT tap their nose or hit them, the nasal passages can be damaged that way an you can hurt their joints.

Yip a 'yow!' at them, scruff them, hold them up to your face and say 'NO!", wait a second then put them down (gently). They'll back up and frizz out their tail and think at first you want to play, but don't put your hands to them or even look at them, you want them to associate the response with NO play reaction from you.

By you not playing or doing anything to interact after the 'no', they pick up fast that biting gets them no fun at all.

You can also use some Bitter Apple on your hands, to make yourself taste bad. DO NOT let them lick the inside of the elbow or the back of your knees because those are pheromone spots and they'll go 'lick, lick, chomp' regardless of any other training. And some ferrets bite if you wear perfume, it's a 'ferret thing'.

Be consistent. Don't put your hands near them immediately after they bite at you, and if one gets too excited, let him calm down before putting him near your face.

They're very smart little animals, but they don't realize their teeth hurt.

well I don't know much about ferrets, but maybe you could tap it's nose every time it bites you. it worked on my guinea pig, now she only bites to tell you she has to go bathroom.
