I've had two, both females, both wonderful animals. Very protective without being aggressive, great with kids, exceptionally loyal. Very little grooming is required, and they're smart and easy to train (also very eager to please). High energy but they're easier to wear out than some of the sporting breeds I've had. By far my favorite breed, and I can't say enough good things about them.
Here's my very serious CAUTION: Be extremely careful where you get it from. These amazing dogs have so many inherent health problems it can be heartbreaking. Prone to cancer, heart disease, eye ulcers, skin problems, and joint issues. Probably more. Just find a good breeder who is very careful about the health and longevity of their lines and you'll have the best dog of your life.

Boxers are not good dogs, they are EXCELLENT dogs. I have two now in the house. I've owned 5 now! Be sure to get one from a reputable breeder or you may end up with a very hyper one. I have never had any issues with my boxers with that. I love these dogs and they love me. Extremely loyal, excellent watchdog, intelligent, easily trained. My first baby I got at 8 weeks old and he was house broke completly in one week. No Lie, but I have dog training also. No matter how big they get, they will always want to get in your lap. Very good for leaning on you. Can distinguish between good and bad at age. They are very playfull and extremely comical. I laugh just looking at there mugs! Highly reccomend, excellent with kids! They will protect if needed! My boxers don't drool! They may have water coming out of there big lips after drinking but thats it.

Boxers are excellant. I'm 32 now but growing up we had a boxer Gonzo. I still miss him till this day. He was great loyal just a really good dog. Very good with kids. Right now I have an english bulldog she is also a very loving, nice, sweet dog I would suggest a boxer or english bulldog to anyone looking for a puppy. They are my favorite.

Boxers are very loyal dogs but they have alot of energy. If you want a loyal, loving hyper dog that is good with kids then you should get a boxer. Also they are the best family pet when they get the right amount of exercise every day. And are trained properly.

Boxers are nice, but they have a shorter life span than other dogs their size.
Consider a Vizsla (Hungarian hunting dog). Totally family oriented, docile, loves to snuggle, but runs around, too. Potty and leash trains easily. My baby Zachary is 18 mos., 75 pounds, and he can be left home, inside, all day, and he doesn't bother anything. He just sleeps on the couch or at the top of the stairs. At 18 mos., most other dogs are still going after anything they can get their teeth on.

To Rebecca S. You shouldn't say that. I know labs that are mean and will bite you for no reason. I also know labs are sweet and nice. It is the same for boxers. It doesn't matter what kind of dog it is. All dogs are capabell of biting people. It depends on how theyre raised.

My aunt used to breed and show boxers, so I grew up around them. They're great dogs, and are usually really good with kids.

my friend had one and they had to put it down cuz it bit to many people. if you want a dog around the size of a boxer i would reccomend a lab. they are obedient, playful and nice. they dont bite either. i know this because she got a lab later on and my brothers friend has 1 and his friend or friends parents have never been bit.
