He has three tickets that he was trying to write an appeal for( leaving the scene, failure to report (an accident) and a request to suspend his license. He failed to file the appeal papers by the correct date and is about a week late so a bench warrent was issued.
He's po'd with me cus he wanted to stay at my house for the next few days thinking they'd come looking for him. I'm just not so into it for several reasons. Actually I just don't feel like having the company is all.
My opinion is that if he was pulled over then maybe he'd have something to worry about but we're talking about traffic tickets, not major crime, right?

Those are not just traffic tickets. In NY Leaving the scene is a misdemeanor. If he has a bench warrant out for him then the warrant squad could show up any day and bring him in. His best chances are to turn himself in because if the judge sees the warrant squad brought him, the judge could set bail and he could stay locked up. You cannot harbor him, either, you should stay out of it. Will they get him on a holiday weekend? Most likely no, but they could, and if they do hes going to jail and even more so if he tries to run. Tell him to call a free lawyer and arrange to turn himself in like on Tuesday.

Maybe, maybe not, depends on the department and individual officers.

I get given a list of warrants with addresses in my beat, the expectation is that I find them during "quiet times". I also track down any FTA's on any ticket or case I've been involved in. To be honest tracking warrants, whether felonies or FTA Traffic are fun, and often result in bigger and better charges.

Personally I don't find the charges you list as "just traffic tickets", he appears to have been involved in a hit and run, while driving on suspended license. Could have been jailed on those charges in this state....

That said the chances of the PD coming for him this weekend are slim.

If I find someone driving with a warrant, the vehicle's getting searched and towed. Tell him to just turn up to the court on Tuesday and get it fixed.

NO. Your friend has to worry about being pulled over by the cops for a speeding or some other traffic violation; they will run his id and find he has warrants and haul his sorry but*&!!@#$%& off to jail where it belongs. He should pay his fines like the rest of the honest citizens in this country do.

if it is a bench warrent they will probably not come looking for him. this is what usually happens with a bench warrent....the judge orders a bench warrent and its put inte effect, they cops wont come looking for you, instead if he gets pulled over or plates ran by the cops they will be notified that there is a bench warrent out for him and he will be taken into custody then, he will sit in jail until he can get into court (usually a day or two, unless its the weekend)

If they know where he is they'll pop him!
Don't let him stay with you, you could be charged with "harboring!"
