My HSBC card called me twice today at work, leaving messages with my co-worker. They called again, I answered and they wanted to know if I made a $100 charge to sprint, a $76 charge to Target, $100 on flowers, and $50 for a haircut.
I made all these charges and i usually spend 400 a week on this card. My payments are on time and im under the credit limit.
I was embarrased because i have nosey co-workers everyone was listening and making up stories that im bakrupt.
I am outraged that they would call just for this at my job like I did something wrong.
I have citibank and if they think something is suspicious they just leave a message at home.

What the hell was this about?

When you signed up for the card did you give them your work number? This is the first question you have you ask yourself. If you did give them your work number they have the right to call it. The second thing is when you signed up did you read the terms? Most likely it states in there if the company will ever call your work. If it states it in there you can’t do anything about it because you agreed to the terms. Lastly why don’t you just call the company and say thank you for the help but can you not call me at my work anymore. That should help. And just remember don’t be rude.;

The credit card companies will call and verify charges if there is unusual or lots of charges on your card in one day. This is to prevent the fraudulent use of your card. As someone who has had a credit card stolen and fraudulently used, I'm happy to take this call from the credit card company - even at work.

Tell your co-workers that you have a great credit card company with a strong fraud prevention program and they just wanted to verify some recent activity on your card --- or let your co-workers think your going bankrupt and see if you can milk a free lunch or two out of them. That's what they get for being nosy.

if you did it all that day its called fraud protection. You probably got a spending cap on your card where you are notified automatically if you hit that mark. I have it on my emails call them Tuesday and have them to switch to emails to notify you. They will also notify you if you are aggressively making purchases say 10 a day or something.

Hey at least they are alert and looking out for you. Be thrilled and if co workers ask just tell them hey at least my card company was nice enough to let me know they are looking out for me.

They might have your work # listed as home or maybe you gave out your work #.. I always make one up when applying for credit cards. I only have work and cell and I don't want them calling me on either!
Call them and tell them to change the number to your home #. Good luck!

Well, depends on how you want to look at it. Sounds like they are doing their job and making sure it's you making the purchases. Don't be mad at them, be glad. Why don't you just ask them not to call you at work and call you at home instead. I think they are just being careful with so much ID theft going on out there.

What they are doing is for your protection. You should not have given your office telephone number if you did not want them to use.

Your coworkers are teasing you. If they heard the conversation they know what it was about.

If you still do not want them to use your work number just tell them not to use it.

They do that all the time to be sure someone is not using your credit card other than you. If someone had stolen your card you would be very happy that they did that. I was!

I would call them and leave a cell ph number to call if they ever have more questions. That is embarrassing and I would explain that to them.
