The northern Italians look down their noses at the southern Italians and they both sneer at the Greeks, who sneer right back.

The Serbians hate the Croatians and the Croatians hate the Serbs.

The Greeks hate the Turks, the few Kurds in Australia hate the Turks too and any stray Iraqis who happen to be about.

The Maltese do not wish to be confused with Italians, the Macedonians do not wish to be confused with the Greeks.

The Iranians who are here don't have much time for the Arabs and the Arabs don't have a lot of time for the Iranians.

The Hindu Indians don't like Pakistanis or any Muslims.

The mainland Chinese don't have much time for anybody who isn't Chinese, the "ethnic" Chinese from Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam though have different attitudes.

The Irish Catholics in Australia had always seen themselves as the victims of the Protestant Anglo Saxons but they seem to have mostly gotten over that and stand alongside their former "persecutors" scratching their heads while trying to "tolerate" the ethnic rivalries of more recent immigrants.

Over what period? Do a search on "white Australia policy" and you will find some historical stuff. If you want to go further back, a search on "lambing flat riots" should give you a lead into some of the c19 anti-Chinese sentiment.

You might want to have a look at the Department of Immigration web site http://www.immi.gov.au which might have some anodyne feelgood official stuff.

I don't know a specific site, but search for "Austrailia racism" see what happens. I've seen quite a few articles recently that Austrailians are trying to take a stand against the immigrant problem.

Google the Whitlam government, see what you get.

White Australia policy was put to rest officially in 1972, but doesnt mean it stopped internally.

Should be plenty of info on it.
