in most cases it is a humane way to "kill" a dog.
The vet will give the dog an overdose of a certain type of meds. he will usually inject the dog as if taking blood and the dog will usually pass away without pin and very quickly.
Unfortunately some places still use gas chambers where the dogs do suffer while being killed

put down,euthanized,put to sleep they all me that the dog is medically killed because of body problems or the dog got a taste of human blood or is not fit to be owned my a person because it is too aggressive

they like give the dog a drug that makes them fall asleep so they don't feel anything then they give them something that kills them! I would never do that unless my dog is suffering! hope I answered your question good! =D
