Cleaning Hi8 camcorder's heads and pinch rollers. Can I do it safely??

Sound is ok but video is not ok. Smaller letters are unreadable.

get a cleaning tape for video 8 system. cleaning tapes work good for keeping heads at peak performance. excessive re-use of tapes is a cause for clogging heads, use new tapes whenever possible. your problem is not characteristic of dirty heads, it sounds to me to be a problem in the camera end. perhaps the lens needs cleaning.
