I am resorting to you guys cause I know that you are geniouses. (geniousi??) LOL

I purchased an HP Pavillion notebook with Vista installed. I am using it for my work so I am allowed to install Microsoft Office 2007 pro. They gave me the lisencing info and I logged onto the site and did the download.
After the download was complete, I thought it would automatically run, but it showed in a long white box, with three tabs underneath. the closest I 've ever seen this box look like is a Zip file box, but with no colour. I've never seen anything like it.
I pressed the one button that said something like "run this program" (sorry can't remember) and then it asked with which program I would like to open it. I chose notepad thinking that it would provide the instructions for extracting the .exe.
It didn't
Instead, it locked up everything - I had to shut down and restart and now EVERYTHING that is related to Windows programs is opening in notepad.... what did I do and how can I fix it?
