Of course not.

Ever since this debate started, not one person has been able to show how gay marriage will harm hetero, or "traditional" marriage. All they can do is cite some vague "moral slippage," or "decay of ethics." Which is only another way of saying they have no proof it harms hetero marriage in any way. With hetero divorce rate at over 50% and family violence and parents physically abusing children at higher rates than ever before, what kind of harm to they really think gay people could inflict on the institution of marriage?

The whole premise is kinda dumb: is there only enough love for heteros? Do some people think that if we celebrate gay marriages, the amount of love in their marriage will decrease? Are they afraid they won't get as many gifts at the baby shower because 2 lesbians down the road are having one too?

It's absurd to deny gay people the right to marry.

Good for them (Iowa). It should make it easier for California to overturn prop 8. Lebron, prostitution is legal in at least some counties of Nevada and it's such a low priority for enforcement in most other precincts it's essentially legal - now maybe your problem is with the act of prostitution but that's really between you and the prostitute, isn't it? I think it really is the same thing - victimless crimes all around and you there saying it's all wrong, not just for you but for anybody else. Edit: Papa smurf, it's more like Ford saying "we have a trademark on 1/2 ton pickup as well". The body of law has used the terms "marriage" and "married" for so long it's hard to claim that they have to hew to some traditional religious definition. Either all governments have to yield the term to the churches (something the churches aren't even asking) or they have to assert that they have completely secular meanings today and that includes gay marriage.

If you are asking if I think that it harms the existing marriages of straight couples then I would say that it has little or no effect upon them.

However the idea that the sacred institution of marriage has been successfully redefined by official government sanction and recognition does great harm to this nation and the young people who are growing up in it.

It is another blow to the concept of there being universal truth and a victory for moral relativism as advanced by secular humanists. It's another slide down the slippery slope of moral degeneracy in this country and it adds to the confusion that young people already face when trying to determine what standards if any they should base their life decisions upon.

Harms? It is not like straight people are going to become gay all of a sudden. Heck, legalizing gay marriage may deter people from becoming gay. Most people love and always love people of the opposite sex. TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE IS NOT GOING TO GO AWAY.

Of course it does. It is a mockery of the traditional family structure. Most homosexuals do not care about getting married anyway - it's the left wing communists that want to shove it down everyone's throats. The majority of Americans don't want gay marriage legalized. If they did, it would have happened a long time ago.

Probably will reduce the number of people who take marriage seriously and harm the 'institution' of marriage as a whole, or.. public perception of it. But I don't care, because my marriage is fine. And if future people avoid marriage for it, oh well, they'll have to deal with four babies with four different parents and all the mess that causes.

It has been shown in a Scandanavian country (Switzerland, I THINK) that same-sex marriage destroys marriage completely. Now, in that country, NOBODY is marrying and they have the highest number of unwed mothers in the entire world. FACT.

When they start messing with the sacredness of marriage, EVERYONE is hurt!

I came home from work and my husband left me b/c 2 dudes in Iowa want to commit themselves to each other. Whoa is me.

aka = no. In fact, anyone as in love with their spouse as much as I am with mine could only support gay unions. Love is love. And it's fantastic stuff.

Nope, not at all. They just want the rights and protections every other couple wants. No harm in it.
