This goes for all of you-Christians, Buddhists, atheists, whatever. Why do you have to argue so much? Why can't you just let everyone believe what they believe?

Okay, truth is important to you, but why not let someone else believe something that you don't think is true?

Starte Christ: And how would you know whether or not I'm not "there"? Are you saying that because you've assumed I'm atheist, and thus assumed I'm depressed? I haven't shared ANY beliefs, let alone my emotions.

Believe what you want. I don't have a problem with it.

As a Christian, I have a duty to fulfill by witnessing. As time has passed, I want so deeply more and more for people to believe, that whatever they say to 'disprove', I will look into it most times and try to rebute it. I love God, and I wish other people could love him too. It's important to me, I don't know why. Just the fact that he is important in my life, I guess. It's hard to explain.
I am a fairly new student of God. I am not well into the word just yet. I'm still learning, and making mistake in what I say. I do not mean to 'push' my beliefs, I just have this fire inside that I want to share, and sometimes I think I worry over it too much.
After I've gone home from work and left the computer, I still think about this. It is on my mind, and often I talk about it to whoever I see after I'm gone.
It's important to me.

Edit I am not trying to force anything, you make your own decisions, but here is why I want you to believe.
You do as you will, in any case. I want you to be on my side, is that so bad?

Nobody must believe what I believe. But there's a misconception that's growing stronger about what's science and what's mythology. Science is not a belief or religion, and is not based on faith or assumptions. Religion does not belong in science class and politics. That's the most important thing I like say about religion. Further I don't really care what you believe, as long as I don't have to live according to rules and laws from stone age societies and things like that. And I feel sorry for the kids that have to grow up under the threat of hell and such.

I could ask you the same thing. Why must I believe what YOU believe?
I would love it if we all let everyone believe what we wanted to.

I am sick of SOME atheists telling me how dumb I am and making fun of me. When they do this, they are doing the exact same thing that they rant about having been done to them. Why not let it go? Does it make them feel better to "get revenge" because they have been harrassed? Is it mature to do that?

So you are saying that if we don't believe in the way you do about what people believe( that we shouldn't argue about it so much and just let things be) there is something wrong with us? Seems closed minded to me.

I merely argue for my right to believe what I wish, or to not believe what the all-powerful majority believes. Aside from that, I really don't care what people think is true. To each his or her own.

Being tolerant is not the same as cowering silently in the corner

Because TRUTH is important to me. However, i prefer not to push my beliefs, because I don't know the absolute truth. Letting everyone what they want to believe wouldn't be a good idea, we have no way to evaluate others claims to determine which is more likely correct than the others. This problem becomes more acute, at least for religious believers themselves, if we imagine that one of them is using faith to defend an especially heinous belief system — like, for example, one that teaches racism and anti-Semitism.

remember:
-Hitler "believed" that killing the Jews were good.
-Terrorist "believed" that committing suicide attacks is for the good.
-The KKK "believed" that killing blacks is good.
-and thousands of more....

Ok to tell you the truth, I don't argue on yahoo answers, as a matter of fact, I've never argued. But, as a Christian, it is my job to get people to 'convert' themselves. Christ said go ye into all the world and preach the gospel making diciples out of them, and I consider this quite easy, because I can communicate with people all over the world through yahoo answers or msn etc. God Bless!!

because if everyone believes what I believe then there would be no more fighting.

...

I believe that everyone should be free to live and worship as they see fit. that every religion is valid. and that everyone should have the rights to follow their religion as they see fit. and that religion should not be a part of politics or lawmaking. and that religions should govern themselves.

the only secular laws that should greatly impact religous practice are ones regarding

Theft,
Murder,
Adultery,
and
Rape,

Good question. I wish I had an answer for you, but I agree with you. Unfortunately, a lot of fundamentalists of ALL stripes (not sure if I would include Buddhists - they tend to be a live and let live group) are a my-way-or-the-highway group....
