"Excuse me for interrupting your interuption, but I'd like to continue what I was saying for the sake of those here who don't have your own limitless stores of knowledge" is one approach. The opposite is "You don't say?" and then go on as if he/she had never spoken.

We deal with one at work too.

My best advice is ignore and avoid, limit contact to only the absolute minimum of what is necessary to do your job.

It's funny - but I think several people at work have picked up on my lead and are also "shunning" this obnoxious "know-it-all" because finally today at work I noticed she was awfully quiet.

NICE!

Trying to prove a know-it-all wrong will only encourage them to argue and will cause them to dig in their heels.

I've found that the best way to deal with it (ie: get out of the conversation with as little stress as possible) is to agree.
"Yes, you're right. Mel Gibson was in Die Hard."
"Yes, you're right. Cats are smarter than dogs."
Then just go about your business.

The only way is to beat him/her at his/her own game. You just have to prove at some point in time that person is dead wrong. The humiliation will stop cold future attempts to show off.

I just let the person drone on and on, pretty much not listening to them after the first couple of minutes.

Challenge the person and print off information about stuff that you strongly disagree on, to prove your'e right??..

Contradict everything they say.
Mind you the down side is they will probably end up putting this same question on line.

I usually try to ignore her/him but its kinda hard especially when she's starting to pi$$ me off. I'd just turn my back on her when she starts talking so she knows she really getting on my nerves.

I just go along with what they're saying with a touch of humor.

Just get along and listen, maybe we can learn something new from that person.
