I've read about this technique you can use and it's worked for me tremendously during test, job interviews and in general.

What was the question again?

Seriously, there are many things you can do.

1/ Use mnemonic... which is a fancy way of saying use association. Associate what you're trying to remember with something you know. A birthday, a color, a street address, a rhyme.

2/ For test and studying, repetition is good. Doing homework, reviewing homework and trying to understand the concept. Make flashcards and study.

3/ Exercise to increase oxygen flow to the brain.

4/ Do things to "keep sharp" puzzles and games that use the mind.

5/ Relax. When we're under pressure or anxious, our minds aren't focused. Just try to relax and focus.

Those are a few things I've read about and used. I'm sure you'll find tons of other articles about memory aids and memory retention.

We remember:

10% of what we read
20% of what we hear
30% of what we see AND hear
70% of what we say AND write
90% of what we say as we do it

You may feel like an idiot if you repeat things aloud, but it works. My students learn basic medical terminology by watching a video while filling out a worksheet and repeating the terms aloud. One student told me she remembers medical terms, vocabulary words, and definitions by associating them with different sex terms!

repetition is key. Also, when studying, always read out loud, information is retained better when it is seen and heard.
