I'm not talking about unprovable "after life" consequences based on threats and promises.

The only consequence I can see is when you get caught or are accused of "sinning".
The REAL LIFE consequences seem to be disapproving glances, slander, defamation of character, demonization, and ostracism from other self righteous Christians when they are in need of manipulating others. So the only real consequences seem to be somewhat subtle but sometimes overt social and psycholigical punishment by other humans.

Do not focus only on the extremes. Murder, thievery, rape, etc. are not the only things considered "sins". Lots of silly, petty things are also included and the list is almost unlimited depending on the needs of the Christian manipulator. For example "Harry Potter is a sin", or "eating meat on Friday during lent", or sometimes simply questioning beliefs.

And I still don't get the reason for calling people "sinners" if everyone is supposedly a "sinner".

STD's are a REAL LIFE consequence of sin.

STD's are a consequence of having premarital sex with multiple partners or having sex with multiple partners after one is married. If both partners wait & don't have sex until they are married & only have sex with their spouse then they are only with one partner & STD's can not be transmitted because there are no STD's between the 2 people.

First of all, there is no such thing as sin. Sin is a construct of the human mind and varies by time and place according to the conventions of society.

God does not have an arbitrary list of rules. There are however some immutable laws of the universe. Gravity is an example. If you drop something it will fall. That's just how the universe works. Similarly, the universe acts as a mirror in that it reflects back to you what you send into it. As you sow, so shall ye reap. It has nothing to do with sin, it's just the way things work.

In terms of literal consequences that can be harder to quantify. Sometimes the consequences are manifest directly in your body. Anger for example tends to create cancers and ulcers. Sometimes the consequences are manifest in the personal interactions you have with others. If you're mean to people they'll be mean right back.

As I understand it, the only goal of Christianity is the relationship between us, the created, and God, the Creator. Heaven is just a place for that relationship to happen.

Sin is anything that damages that relationship. Yes, I agree that everyone is a sinner. I also agree that sin is a theological term and should not be used in a secular context.

I think a worse consequence than getting caught is having to live with the knowledge of one's own wrongdoing. At least, that's how it works for me.

btw, I don't use the word "sin". "Sin" implies someething dark and evil that I just am not buying.

this is the reason that i become a non-believer.
i find the sin concept is irrational. what i believe is just cause and effects, actions and consequences.
what makes it irrational is because the sin concept psychologically limits a person with fear. especially original sin.
it's like we have to believe that we're sinner, can't do things right, will do evil things. it's all psychologically so limiting..

I believe that each of us lives in a genetic
situation that we create.
It's hard to define "sin"
because right and wrong varies within
the mind of the individual.
But, to borrow a quote from the Bible,
we certainly do reap what we sow.

The last few items you named as "sin", please show them to me in the Bible and I will agree with you. Otherwise please get an understanding as to what you are talking about before making this grand display of ignorance. You know what the consequences of lying are. What about fornication and adultery (STD's and family crises).
