My dad used to always make what he called beans and hamburger. It was ground beef with pork n beans. But I think it had ketchup, onions, and brown sugar in it too. Anyone have a recipe similar?

Probably quantities are not critical (men don't measure).
Thaw 1 lb ground beef & brown in oil with chopped onions.
Diced red & green peppers are another option.

Mix 1 can tomato sauce with 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp mustard.

Open a couple of cans of whatever kind of beans you like.
Dump everything into a slow cooker for 6 hours on medium.
Or place in a heavy bottomed pot in 325F oven, until bubbly.

Beans and hamburger-you don't need a recipe. Just start throwing in things you like. Brown the hamburger, drain off most of the fat and cook some onion in the meat. Throw in garlic, celery, green pepper, anything you like and have on hand. Add a can of baked beans, some ketchup and stir. You can add brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses if you like it a little sweet,or add the kind of beans that are made with honey or brown sugar. I've also had versions with cooked bacon, pineapple and tomato added. It doesn't have to be the same everytime you make it. Just experiment until you find a combo you like.

Oh Boy, you just made my menu for Monday,
Take some Bacon, fry till almost done, take out and drain,
One big can pork and beans in pan.
Cut up one onion
Put in some brown sugar, about three or four tablespoons
Stir in the bacon into bean mix.
Bake for about 45 mins to an hour at 300 degrees
Or you can cook in microwave for thirty or forty mins.
Stir every ten mins. This is how I do it, easier.
You can also add little cooked sausage to it.

Cook and dice bacon, discard grease.
Brown hamburger with onion, discard grease.
Heat brown sugar, ketchup and mustard in sauce pan until bubbly and smooth, stirring often.
Combine all ingredients in casserole dish.
Bake uncovered for one hour.

Notes:
- I usually increase the pork and beans to 28 oz.

Yes. That is a great Pot-luck or BBQ dish. I wouldn't change anything other than to add some mustard and some chopped garlic. The onions should be sauteed with the garlic until they are cooked-through. Drain the canned beans and get rid of that piece of fat before you combine the ingredients.

Too funny, my mom made that for me, too. When I first made it for my husband, he was like : What the hell is that" After the first bite, he gobbled all of it up...lol. We do use the vegetarian beans, however, because I do not eat pork. The brown sugar makes it taste better, in my opinion.
