Our lungs have mucus cells that keeps the lungs wet. The breath that we take from this polluted air contains millions of dust particles. Thus the wet lungs are prone to suffer from the dust that gets stuck inside it. These dust particles get stuck to the mucus cells that die due to dehydration.
Thus, even before the normal limit of dust particles is reached ( which is 10 teaspoons ). Our body tends to release these dust particles through cold.
Thus, when we have cold it is a symptom of good health !
Note:
the dust particles are stopped to a certain extent by the nose hairs.
Prevention of common cold : ( there is no permanent cure .. as cold is an involuntary action taken by our body to clean our lungs )
1. People who take a garlic supplement each day are far less likely to fall victim to the cold than those who do not, research suggests.
2. One excellent cold and flu remedy that you can make at home consistsof five herbs: echinacea, golden seal, garlic, chapparal and Chineseastragalus root.
Combine these herbs in equal amounts and blend approximately fourounces of the combination in a pint of gin or vodka.

Average dose consists of 30 drops to a 1 teaspoontwo or three times daily more or less as needed. During an acutecondition, It is recommend taking a teaspoon steeped in a half cup ofboiling water every hour or two.
3. Herbs classified as diaphoretics and warming stimulantsgreatly assist the body throwing off the external invading pathogensthrough the pores of the skin. Herbal stimulants that are alsoeffective against colds and flu include ginger root (zingiberis off.),cayenne pepper (capsicum frutescens), cinnamon (cinnamomom cassia) andgarlic (allium sativum). Diaphoretic herbs include boneset (eupatoriumperfoliatum), elder flowers (sambucus nigra), yarrow (achilleamillefolium), lemon balm (melissa officinalis) and peppermint (menthapiperita).

The dried herbs should be finely powdered and mixed with warm honey to form a thick goupy consistency. For other sicknesses, there is only one or two strains, or different varieties. So a shot can be made, you take it once, or with bossters every so many years, then your good forever. But the cold has many strains, and new ones come from the existing ones. So while a vaccine could be made for some strains, new strains would just continue on developing. That is why you should get flu shots yearly, because the flu develops new strains as well, though scientists and doctors can keep up with those. So its harder to find a cure for the cold, because it keeps forming into something else. All vaccines are specific, so if it changes, the vaccine is no longer good for the strain.

unfortuantely you can't really have a permanent cure for colds for they always come and go. Try just staying healthy by eating fruits and veggies and also exercising keeps your body strong and that boosts up your white blood cells to help kick the arses of the cold baddies. and stay warm in the winter!

Hope you feel better soon!

There are over 300 viruses that cause colds so a one-stop vaccine is not yet possible. I find that it helps when I eat a really healthy diet (lots of organic fruits and vegetables), get lots of rest and wash my hands frequently. For the past few years, I have had fewer colds (one season none!; last year two) by trying to follow this plan as best as I can.

For the same reason their isn't a permanent cure for a lot of diseases. Treatments to help yes, cures no. Example: Asthma, allergies, arthritis, etc.

Much like humans, the viruses that make up the common cold evolve. They build a resistance to whatever it is that defeated them in the past. Since viruses and bacteria never completely leave the human body, the cliche' "That which does not kill you makes you stronger" comes into play in a big way.

I know I hate getting colds! I never get sick, and the worst I get is a VERY stuffed nose, a bit of a headache, and a sore throat. It's what I have right now and it sucks.

You just have to supply your body with good and nutritious food. Eat vegetables and fruits and lean meat so that your body have a way to block your enemy - cold. Drink a lot of hot drinks (tea, warm water, warm milk, warm apple cider, warm lemon juice). Not too much on cold drinks that has a lot of junks (sugar, food color, acid, carbonate, alcohol, etc...). Can you do that????Hey!
