Makes sense to me since they teach their followers to pray to statues of different "saints".

Hello,
Statues, crosses and all are just reminders like a photo of your wife and family at the office. You see it, causes you to reflect on the family a little but you do not worship the photo or take it to bed with you.
Their are two versions of the ten commandments that came in 200 AD which the protestant churches use and another in 400 AD which Catholic/ Lutherans use:
http://www.davidmacd.com/catholic/10_commandments.htm
The 10 commandments were not originally numbered in the bible. True, there were many churches with different ideas and philosophies as you see in Revelations but in time the Emperor Constantine brought them together to form some cohesion and universal doctrine - hence the Catholic church in the fourth century.
I'll also remind you that the protestant church did not exist in 333 AD. It came to be in 1517.The protestant version existed therefore before the start of the Roman Catholic Church when there were many churches and confusions in theology and the second version came about 400 AD. They have always co-existed together so what is the problem?
Thous shalt not have strange gods before me tells me that I must include graven images also. Again a picture of the Virgin Of Guadalupe or Freida Kahlo or Picasso are not any gods I worship,
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

you lose all weight of arguement or point making when you use such nonsense as the chick tracts or website, these tracts are possibly the most notorious anti catholic propaganda known today. many have already covered the flaw in your statement. the catholic church existed in 33ad long before constantine had anything to do with it. i suggest you locate the writings of the earliest christians i.e the church fathers which predate the constantine nonsense. you can find some at www.scripturecatholic.com, try also www.askmeaboutgod.org
peace and god bless.

There are actually three versions of the Ten Commandments, Jewish, Catholic (and Lutheran), and Protestant taken from Exodus Chapter 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy Chapter 5:6-21.
With the new revelations of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in the early Catholic Church, a slightly different emphasis was placed on different commandments.
Then 1500 years later, the Protestant in objecting to certain Catholic practices, once again changed the emphasis of the Ten Commandments.
+ Jewish Ten Commandments (before 1000 B.C.E.)
1. I am the Lord your G-d who has taken you out of the land of Egypt.
2. You shall have no other gods but me.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your G-d in vain.
4. You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy.
5. Honor you mother and father.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness.
10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

+ Catholic (and Lutheran) Ten Commandments (about 100 C.E.)
1. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
3. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; in it, you shall not do any work.
4. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
10. You shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ***, or anything that is your neighbor's.

+ Protestant Ten Commandments (about 1600 C.E.)
1. You shall have no other gods but me.
2. You shall not make unto you any graven images
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
4. You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
5. Honor your mother and father
6. You shall not murder
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal
9. You shall not bear false witness
10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor

Going to Chick Tracts for information about Catholicism is like going to the KKK for information on African Americans. Following is copied from teh Catechism of the Catholic Church:
THE FIRST COMMANDMENT
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them

The 10 Commandments are found in the Bible's Old Testament at Exodus, Chapter 20. They were given directly by God to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai after He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt:
"And God spoke all these words, saying: 'I am the LORD your God…
ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'
THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'
FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'
FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'
SIX: 'You shall not murder.'
SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'
EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'
NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'
TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's
This proves your theory is dead wrong....

Constantine called the church leaders together for the Council of Nicea for political reasons. He did not have input into the decisions made there. He probably couldn't have cared less about the outcome, he was just looking for uniformity in doctrine for the preservation of his empire.

actually its the other way around. the protestents mashed the 9th and the 10th.
"have no other God before me" covers everything, including idols.
and Stan Lee has more truth in his comics than Jack Chick.
