everytime I try to open a pdf file i get the microsoft error report. I have downloaded acrobat reader 8.0?

You should be able to at least open the PDF in Adobe Reader 8. Are you sure it downloaded and installed correctly? Did you restart after you installed it?

You might want to try uninstalling the Reader, Restarting, then reinstalling.
