I don't think we can comprehend what that is. Surly God was before time and space, but what form of existence of mater and energy cannot possibly be explained.

Nothing before the heavens and the earth---it was all created "In the beginning" if you stick to what the Scripture says. No one can say for sure but that is all that the bible says.

God was here. He spoke things into existence, proving the Big Bang Theory to be true. Between creating Heavens and Earth, and Creating everything else, we find evolution. There ya go. The angels in Heaven were here first, if that's what you want, hence Satan's rebellion.
And how can something be before the beginning? That makes no sense.

Science expresses the universe in five terms: time, space, matter, power, and motion. Genesis 1:1,2 revealed such truths to the Hebrews in 1450 B.C.: "In the beginning [time] God created [power] the heaven [space] and the earth [matter] . . . And the Spirit of God moved [motion] upon the face of the waters." The first thing God tells man is that He controls of all aspects of the universe. (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2). He dwells in eternity and is not subject to time. God spoke history before it came into being. He can move through time as a man flips through a history book.
Because we live in the dimension of time, logic and reason demand that everything must have a beginning and an end. We can understand the concept of God’s eternal nature the same way we understand the concept of space having no beginning and end—by faith. We simply have to believe they are so, even though such thoughts put a strain on our distinctly insufficient cerebrums.

Fear, of the LORD(LAW), is the "beginning" of wisdom.
Sorrows, is the "beginning", via this gospel of law.
Love void of fear is the end of wisdom.
Love void of fear is via that gospel.
Both this/that gospels go ww for comparison:
This gospel: Law: I will forsake you
That gospel: Grace: I will never forsake
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
