I wondered how many others had their weddings(or other big event) video taped by someone incompetant. Our wedding video, taken by a relative, was actually EDITED and MISSING parts of the actual ceremony! Other problems too numerous to name. He volunteered, so we said okay. We won't do that again. So, anyone else have trouble with big event videos?

I got you beat....big time. My wife's friend told us that she'd take the pictures for our wedding as a present. Wonderful, right? WRONG! This chick took wonderful pictures all right.....of the wedding, the reception, my wife's friends....my wife's relatives....not one picture of my side of the family or my friends. It's the one thing my wife and I don't even talk about. I'm still steamed and it's been 6 years ago.

There is a difference between a trained amature and a person who is just an amature period. If you make the choice to have Uncle Joe tape the wedding you are rolling the dice that he will do a great job...and more often than not I see couples get really burned because of it. They are so worried about saving a few bucks so she can have a hugely expensive dress or offending Joe that they forget pictures/video are a one pop shot and don't check over the quality of the persons work like they would someone paid. Can you have talented friends and family? Absolutely but too many times people just assume that if someone is friend/family they are talented. Sorry guys but taping/photographing a wedding is much, much diff. than your nephews birthday parties. I can make lasagna to slap your momma good...but that doesn't mean I could cater a party for 200. Get what I'm saying?

Ouch, I hope that doesn't happen with mine. It could have been worse, my dad doesn't know how to use a video camera and always whips the camera around trying to fix the problem. (last time, he couldn't zoom out so the first half of the tape was really blurred) And he can't use a picture camera either, he just chops off the tops of your head. Needless to say he won't be taking any kind of picture at my wedding.

I did. Not that it matters now, because I am divorced. But my brother in law volunteered to video the ceremony. He began with me getting to the venue. Wonderful footage of the mountain behind, the roof of the limo, the very tippy top of my head....couldnt see anyone else cos they are all shorter than me. A beautiful piece of video of his wife and kids, close up, just gorgeous. Back to the top of my head, not even my eyes, just my headpiece. The whole thing was just crap and to make it worse they gave it to us as a gift, the whole family sat in the lounge to watch it.......and there it was. I dont think I ever watched it again. In fact I dont think I even took it with me when we left my mothers that night. I was so disappointed.
