You won't gain weight overnight. If you're active during the day, and eating healthy and exercising, your metabolism will still be working during the night. In fact, several studies have shown that getting good, long sleep helps with maintaining a healthy weight.
I will sometimes have a protein shake before bed (I make it with a frozen banana, some soy milk, and some hemp protein powder) or a piece of toast with some peanut butter. I also sometimes have a handful of nuts. If you're hungry, eat more (good food)!

If you don't want fruit, a healthy granola bar would be good.
You could eat veggies. Personally, I eat either a Special K granola bar or fruit and a piece of toast.
Or, instead of eating something, have a glass of orange juice.
I was really hungry, but I didn't want to eat something so soon before I was gonna have lunch with my friends, so I drank some juice and a felt better! No clue how that worked, but :)

Most of you know of how to get proper nutrition throughout the day but what do you eat before bed? Common sense suggests that a balance of complex carbs and protein is adequate at this time but I am going to tell you more than that. I am going to tell you precisely what you should be eating and what macronutrients they should be coming from.

The meal you eat before bed is just as important as any of the other meals you consume. Opinions vary from eating anywhere from two hours to fifteen minutes before you go to bed, but what you decide will depend on personal preference. It is also very important that you don`t undereat at this time because doing so will cause you to wake up in the middle of the night feeling hungry, while unconsciencely eating things that you shouldn`t be.

Okay, well I know why the last meal of the day is important, but what should I eat at this last meal? You want to consume slow digesting foods such as fibrous carbs, casein protein, and even healthy fats. Cottage Cheese, natural peanut butter, and any type of vegetable is also perfect at this time. You can even consume complex carbs, just be careful not to eat to much of them.

Of course, you should avoid fattening and sugary foods, if you`re a bodybuilder you shouldn`t be eating these foods anyways. You also need to avoid caffeinated foods and beverage since caffeine keeps you from getting a good night`s rest. There have been no scientfic studies showing that eating before bed will cause weight gain, but be smart and don`t over do it.

The hardest part is keeping your food intake low at night. It gets boring late at night and sometimes you feel that eating is the only thing to do. Don`t! Keep yourself occupied and make sure you are in control of what is going on. Read a book , hop on the forums, there are endless options, just don`t eat things you shouldn`t be. Until next time, later.

actually thats a load of crap that eating late makes you overwieght.

NOT eating late causes your body to lose muscle.

the problem is that in practice, most people who do eat late eat garbage.

eat something filling and good for you like oatmeal or slices of turkey before bed.

If you are trying to lose weight you want to avoid eating starchy carbs at this time. If you are trying to maintain or gain then it isn't ok, but I wouldn't say to forbid it.

focus more on foods that have good fats and oils like nuts (almonds are best kind nutritionally) and protien.

nuts tend to fill you up and they will hold you over for a long time. if you are worried about the fat content, it is not the bad fats that are the majoirty it is the poly and monounsaturated kind (good ones) that can also help to reduce your ldl levels and increase your hdl.

Start making Protein shake smoothies before you go to bed, this will curb the cravings for sweet stuff because protein helps to keep your blood sugar levels stable, when you're blood sugar drops too low this is when we crave sugar whether it be fruit or chocolate, eating them at night will cause weight gain.

Google search protein shake smoothies and some good recipes should come up.

I eat triscuits with low fat cheese alot for a bedtime snack. I really like it, and it certainly is different from the fruit and yogurt routine. Or maybe try some 100 calorie bags of microwave popcorn.

You are right that eating at night can lead to weight gain (because your body doesn't need the energy and stores it as fat). Fruit and yogurt are not bad choices, but you could do a lot better. Fruit and yogurt both tend to be high in simple carbohydrates, which you especially don't need at night. I like to eat foods like sunflower seeds, peanuts, and soynuts. Sunflower seeds are especially good because it is hard to eat a lot of them (you need to break them out of their shells).

Nothing wrong with having a salad, chicken or turkey sandwich
before bed.Putting weight on at that time is a myth.Your body
works even sleeping. Also lettuce and turkey are 2 of the best inducing sleep foods around.

A banana is good because it has energy to sustain your body through the night until breakfast. Carrots are also good as is a slice of toast because its not fattening (especially if its wholemeal or brown bread) and provides your body with the nutrients it needs.

Just try not to have any acidic/citrus fruits before bed as they damage your teeth (even if you brush them- you just spread the acid around your mouth) and may up the acidity levels in your stomach, giving you heartburn.
Alternitively eat a larger dinner so that you won't get as hungry later.

Try a fruit smoothie or water to fill your stomach before bed.
