ok, so the story goes, jesus had to be crucified. any other means of death would not have fulfilled prophecy and thus he would not have been recognized as the christ. here's what i don't get. anyone can get crucified. it's a pretty easy event to accomplish if you work at it. thus it's easy to self-fulfill. in fact, i've read up on this and there were several people claiming to be the messiah who were crucified as well. what made jesus so different? well that's like asking why does coke sell more than pepsi? it just does. there always has to be a prevailing story. by chance it was jesus'. i'd say a truly divine individual who claimed to be god could have thought of a more creative way to die that few people could have replicated, like being struck by lightning. then while he was in god the father form he could reveal how he will die to the prophets and thus make it much more difficult for people to go around saying they were the messiah.

Have you bothered to read the prophecy? There is a lot more to it than being nailed to the cross.. Go look you'll find it in Psalms 22... IHS Jim

The crucifixion was not the only prophecy. To fulfil the prophecy of Messiah is not that easy, it was narrowed down so much that there is no doubt in my mind that Jesus Christ would not be our Messiah. Even Muslims believe He is Messiah.

Many people have claimed to be Messiah, that is not a new concept.

Coke was here first and that it why it sells more.

Jesus is God, He did what He came to do. I think that is pretty awesome!

There were other things besides being crucified that needed to happen to fulfill the prophecy. For example, the prophecy also said that the messiah would come from the house of David. Its not as narrow as you're depicting it.

Good point!

Scripture says that Messiah would be cut off. Medically, when he was pierced, a mixture of blood and water came out, meaning that since he was already dead, the blood and serum were separating OR the pericardium was pierced. Either way, he was definitely dead.

However, this supposed Messiah predicted his resurrection 3 days later, and fulfilled it. He was seen by over 500 believers at once.

His resurrection is the evidence we were looking for. His selfless life is the rest of the proof.

It wasn't only the manner of death. The circumstances and things beyond human control were also prophecied about. Put all that together and there is proof enough of Jesus being the ONE TRUE Messiah.
For instance, when the soldiers cast lots for His garment. That He would die with the poor, but His grave would be with the rich.

There were over 350 separate old Testament prophecies, written over a period of hundreds of years, about Jesus birth, lineage, life and death that had to come true and did to signify him as being the one and only true Son of God, Christ, the Redeemer.
His death on the cross was just a small but important part of the prophecies and it was not only that he died on the cross but other elements of his death such as his legs not being broken---which was customary to do to tell if a person were dead or hasten death---his side being pierced and being buried with the rich.
Most, if not all, of the prophecies were beyond his control.

When it was prophesied that Christ would be crucified, crucifixion had not even been thought of. Jesus also had to be beaten unrecognizable and Jesus had to be pierce and Jesus' bones could not be broken and His clothes had to have lots cast for them. He also had to be placed between 2 criminals. This was all prophesied.

There is no coincidence that a common woman was chosen to bring Him into the world. He was a humble carpenter and washed the feet of those below Him. I am not surprised He died in a "common" manner as well. It speaks volumes as to who Christ is.

Other "messiahs" tried to wage war against Rome and got killed for it.

Jesus didn't do that.

and coke sells more than pepsi because it's used by McDonald's.
