I'm in my 20's, I live with my fiance, and I cook almost every day, for almost every meal. We go out to eat once a week at most, and we might buy lunch or dinner on the go once every other week, but I make a huge effort to cook as much as I can.
My fiance takes leftovers to work all the time and gets the funny looks too. When I was working (I'm a full-time student now), I got the same looks. Of course, sometimes the looks were because my food looked and smelled so good compared to the microwave garbage.
I think microwave meals are okay once in a while, and fast food is okay for an occasional treat, but it is really important to eat your own home-cooked meals. They're generally better nutritionally, and financially, they save a lot of money.
Even for those who say they "have no time," that is not true. Except for the most busy 2% of the population, many of us have enough time to cook if we are smart with our meal-planning. You could prepare food on the weekend and freeze or refrigerate the meals for the week. Things like spaghetti sauce, lasagnas, or other things that you can prepare in a baking dish and throw in the oven when you are hungry, can be made by any of us if we take the time.
Good for you for cooking your own food.

I am married, in my 40's, am 1/2 owner of an electronics recycling business where I not only do books and advertising but am frequently called to speak at public venues. I have 2 children who live at home (10 and 11) and 1 who does not (19) plus a myriad of friends and family who may "pop by" for supper. I am a trained chef but have put off working in or owning a restaurant until my kids are older - so they get the benefit of all my experiments. I cook an average of 28 days a month and when I don't want to or can't my Hubby takes care of it. We have every kind of food from classic burgers and fries to sushi - there are rarely leftovers but when there are we might have them for lunch or I may just remake it into a new dish (like turkey then turkey catcatore) I may also freeze a particularly difficult meal like menudo, enchiladas or lasagna for a night I am out or won't be able to cook due to some schedule conflict. My Slow cooker is in use all winter and salads are a constant side (i will marinade, saute as well as serve fresh and cold). If you want to cook for your family get a 30minute cookbook and have fun - cooking is only as difficult and time consuming as you want it to be really. Have fun and enjoy the pleasure of your own cooking!

I'm a male in my 40's single and work 55 hours a week average (I manage restaurants) , and yet I do cook at home daily. Although due to my schedule, I don't necessarily cook a dinner every day, but as far as breakfast, lunch and or dinner, if it is a meal I am having at home I do cook from scratch. The processed and convenient foods these days are not healthy, and I don't think you can beat the taste of something you make with quality ingredients instead of processed foods. Even while at work I tend not to eat the average fair at our restaurants. (not that it's bad food, just sick of it the same cuisine every day.) So I tend to create something off the menu each day while at work. I agree..this country has become overly dependent on the ready to eat foods for convenience, and the fast food lifestyle is killing us. The fact that majority of public schools no longer offer a home economics class, or any cooking courses at all is a shame. The 2 parent working syndrome is only going to perpetuate this problem further, with more and more children growing up on the ready to eat stuff, they don't get the pleasure of spending quality time with parents learning to cook in their kitchens anymore... That was one of my favorite things growing up, was the ability to help my mother and grandmother prepare meals in the kitchen semi regularly.... Those days are quickly disappearing for today's youth.

Yes, home cooking is fast becoming a thing of the past.
I grew up from the 40's to the 60's when there was only home cooking, and mothers taught their daughters how to cook preparing them for marriage. At that time most women were wives and mothers only. But times have changed and with forth generation of divorces, mothers have little time to teach their daughters how to cook. Most young mothers don't know how to cook.
Thank goodness that good healthy meals can still be had with all the wonderful modern conveniences such as the microwave (microwaves do not kill.....I have been using one for 30 years and my 81 year old husband and I are still here).

I work a 40 hour a week just plus manage 5 duplexes on the side. I have a 15 year old son and a husband who is currently deployed.
I cook at home at least 5 times per week sometimes more.
I try to cook things that I can make in under 30 minutes or put something in the crock pot that will allow me to make sides to go with it that take less than 30 minutes to prepare.
I too am tired all of the time, but it is so expensive to eat out and so bad to eat processed foods like frozen dinners. They are laden with sodium and God only knows what those chicken nuggets are made from.....mostly fat I think.
It is difficult to cook everyday, but it is definitely worth it!

i am married, stay at home mom (3 1/2 year old girl), late 20s/early 30s. i cook big 'homecooked' meals a few times a week. i love to cook, but time and money can be an issue. i like to cook big gourmet meals, that often involve pricey ingredients, so that limits me. i cook whatever i can, whenever i can. my husband also takes "home moade" leftovers to work. i think his co-workers have been jealous in the past, lol. my daughter loves everything cooking (actual cooking, cooking shows on tv, cookbooks, etc.). i actually had to get her own kitchen a year ago so she could cook too. i think it's sad people don't cook from scratch anymore.

I work out of my home and live alone but i still cook my meals. I never use instant foods or TV dinners. All my meals are cooked from scratch. I grow a vegetable garden and freeze and can my vegetables.
Yes i cook "real" food. Bake pies and cakes from scratch.
Am in my late 50ties.
When i have guests in i put out a big dinner all cooked by me even the biscuits.

I'm 42 female who lives alone.........well, just about. I have a soon-to be 21 year old daughter who's on her own, and a soon-to-be 17 year old son who is rarely ever there. I cook nearly every night, even if it's just a grilled cheese sandwich. It's not about the cost, it's that I love to cook.........anything. My favorite thing to do is make pie for people. I made one for this man who asked me to make a lemon pie, and gave it to him. He tried to pay me, but I wouldn't let himi (he's elderly, I just couldn't). It made his day and it made mine by giving it to hiim. I cook a Sunday dinner for my kids every Sunday.
When I go to the grocery store, I buy whatever is on sale, and go from there. I re-package meat into small portions for one person. A lot of times I will cook hamburger meat, let it cool, then freeze it for casseroles and stuff like that and it saves me time when I get off work. I have done the same with just boiling chicken breasts for casserole and soup.
I don't necessarily cook breakfast unless my son's there to eat it because I really don't care for breakfast food.
I do go out to lunch almost everyday though.

im 19 years and a stay at home mom/ house wife. i do the home cooked meals every night, pretty much the only time we go out is paycheck day...lol to give me a break.
I never buy food thats already cooked to take home and reheat like those chickens...i start from the beginning!
same with deserts im great at baking. but yeah nobody looks at my husband funny when he takes home cooked left overs to work...no why? every body at his work loves my cooking and baking so much sometimes i just make things for him to take in. It might seem easy being a stay at home mom and trying to pull off the whole home cooked meal thing- and in ways it is, some times its a little hectic when the baby is screaming for mommy, or wants to play when your trying to get things done (dont forget cleaning the house before the husband gets home, no man wants to come home to a mess) ohh and its pretty hectic with out a dishwasher...i am the dishwasher- but yeah no matter how much stuff i have to get done i still fit in time to make a home cooked meal. Im pretty old fashioned when it comes to that stuff-- the house wife stuff.
and yes i am young and alot of older women dont do that stuff.
my mom fit in time to teach me how to cook and be "that trophy wife" while being a single mom having a full time job and 4 kids ...no child support eaither-
