It's a manual speed transmission but I think it's a 5 speed but I could be wrong as I know the cars do have reverse but I am not exactly sure which specific gears they have. That is a good question though. Sometimes the drivers use a heel and toe technique while driving and especially on road coarses where your part of your foot is on the accelerator and the other part is on the clutch, I believe. So this is really effective if you can do it. It takes alot of practice though. Good question.

Most teams run a Jerico 4 speed standard transmission. Other companies also build 4 speeds suitable for Cup racing, but Jerico is the dominant brand right now.

It's only a 4-speed, not including reverse and neutral.
