Good question.
The Bible explains this, the Old Testament covers God's dealings with the Jews and only the Jews, in the New Testament God's gift of salvation through belief in His Son (who is also God) is extended to all non-Jews as well (The Gentiles). So now anybody Jew or non-Jew can become a child of God. How? By accepting Jesus as the one who took their sins on the cross and gives them new life. You then become part of God's worldwide family, the truth is that many Jews are not God's children because they have not accepted Jesus as their Saviour, yet the Jews are still God's special people and He still has plans for them - many western christians have missed this. www.ariel.org

"Why do Christians follow a god that is a god of the Jewish people? "
This is actually a good question. The Jewish God promised that something would happen. I will give you the short of it:
1) He promised a Messiah to come.
2) he promised that the nation of Israel would not accept him.
3) He promised that the Messiah will be "cut off".
4) He promised that the Messiah would cover the sins of the world.
5) He said that He would return and kill off armies of nations that would gather at Jerusalem to conquer it.
The salvation is provided by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He was told of through what is called 'types and shadows' , he was being prophesied about within the Tabernacle and the Feasts which Hebrews were to practice.
That's only a part of it. There is so much more. We are now in the "time of the Gentiles" and the Jews will understand later. The Jews understanding is talked about in Zechariah 14.
Also see:
Psalm 22
Psalm 23
Psalm 24
Isaiah 52
Isaiah 53
Isaiah 61
Zechariah 12
There are more, but you can e-mail me for more.

There is only one God.
Jesus came to the Jews because the YHWH they worshiped was the closest anybody at the time had come to worshiping the one Living God.
But the Jews rejected Jesus as messiah, so the power of redemption spread to the gentiles.
He is not a Christian God, not a Jewish God, and not a Muslim God; or more specifically, He is all three perceived differently by 3 different cultures. (Of course I'm speaking very generally.)
The Jews are indeed God's children. So are the Christians. So are the Muslims. So is every human being on the planet no matter where they live or what god they worship.
The concept of the true, living God (monotheism) started with the Jewish people, but He is the God of the universe, of all people.

You are under the erroneous impression that a given faith has anything to do with a nation other than its origin! Yes, Jesus was a Jew, but, if you believe in any of that mythology, you should know that he was crucified by the Jews for the heresy of preaching that God loves ALL people, not just (chosen) Jews, and that God is forgiving, not vengeful (i.e. old testament sacrifices vs new testament "turn the other cheek and love your enemy" ethics)
So basically, Jesus was the founder of a "new" religion for those who believed him to be the annointed Christ, thus the word "Christian".
If you are indeed faithful, begin by reading your bible. But if you want the real truth, then read "The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold." It's by Acharya S. (Member; American School of Classical Studies, Athens. Scholar of Archaeology, History, Mythology and Languages.)

Emperor Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire in about 600 AD. He had a Bible written that combined old Jewish law with the teachings of Jesus.
Quite a feat considering the Jews would not claim Jesus as the Messiah

The Old Testament God is an allegory. There is no such thing of a Christian God, Muslim God, and etc, those are all allegories, people reading scripture in a literal manner. Am I saying there is no God essentially? No way, just that there is no such thing of a god after a religion of this world, unless you are referring to the constructs of man through their carnal interpretation of scriptures which are purely esoteric allegories.
But the mind of God, all abide within.

Christians and Jews both have a similiar religion. The big difference is that the Jews don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah that God sent. Yes we both believe in the same God, but Christians believe that Jesus died for our sins. Which I think is why Christianity is such a big religion.

Because there is only one God, the God who created the universe and he chose a people to be separated and holy and be his people. These were the people of Abraham. God chose Abraham and all generations who come from him, hence the Jewish people. He chose the people for many reasons, but one reason was to bring forth the Messiah who would save the people, this was Jesus and the followers of Jesus were called Christians.

I think Christianity comes from a Jewish religion.
I think there are a lot of different religions that pretty much
worship the same God but with a different name.
