Hi everyone, I am wanting to redo my staircase right now there is nasty carpet down that was in the house when we bought it I pulled up the corners of each of the stairs and there is really nice wood underneath the only problem is at some point before they had the carpet put in it looks like when they were painting the trim they got ALOT of paint on the stairs. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to get the paint spots up and what is the best way to restain them? How do you and what do you use to make the wood look nice and glossy? ANY HELP FROM ANYONE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Firstly, use a hot air gun to remove the paint - tedious but effective. Then sand down all the stairs, brush and wipe well and apply varnish of your choosing colourwise. Then apply a couple of coats of boat varnish! Hell of a job to tackle, but they will look fab for years to come.
