I have no doubts that cats are very sensitive and intuitive. I'm choked up writing this , but I want you to know. I had my kitty Frankey for 23 years before we had to have her put to sleep last April. Her kidneys had just shut down and she only had a couple of days left to her. I swear, when we took her to the vet, she sat in my lap, and I talked to her gently, and when it came time to say good bye, I kissed her and wept, and I looked in her eyes, and she said she knew she was leaving this world, and then SHE said good bye, and she said she was OK and ready. My kitty said this with her eyes. I whispered to her, 'Say hello to me when you get there."
A few days later, I was tossing her litter box, and I looked up, and there on the wall was a painting of a black cat that I had forgotten we had. It looked just like her.
I hafta go blow my nose...true story.

Animals in general are more in tune to their environments than we are. Not too long ago, my cats were acting really strange (I have Persians and Himalayans). They were jumping from one piece of furniture to another, not walking on the floor if they could avoid it, and talking up a storm. Within a few minutes I felt the floor start to tremble, and heard a low rumbling sound. This lasted just a few seconds, ten at most. Turns out we had one of the rare earthquakes in this part of the world (New England), and the epicenter was up near Lake Champlain. The cats knew it was coming. People at work later told me their animals were acting weird just before it happened, too.

i once had a tabby cat called candy , and i was working in my basement fixing things ,and above my head there was 3 wooden shelves that r very old. my cat suddenly jumped and stood beside me and started yowling so loud ,and i thought she wanted food so i told her ill be done in a minute. she kept doing that and at the end she started pullin me from my shirt ,which was soemthing she never did ever in her life ! ,i turned and backed away few feet and asked her is she ok ,and all in a sudden 2 of the shelves fallen down where i was working and broke into peices ,which was a huge shock ! , and she got rewarded for her amazing sense :)
so yea there are a lot of cats that r rescuers the same as dogs

They have always said that cats have an extra sense. For exmaple, if you saw recently in the news- a cat at a nursing home would go lay with an elderly person and within 4 hours, they would pass away- the cat could sense death. I'm sure your cats realized something was wrong, since they can sense any change in an environment, and tried to keep you back.

Something like that happened with me a couple of years ago. I have a 26 pound orange tabby. He is seven years old and is so big and sweet. Well, I rescued him from the shelter (he was an abused kitten when I got him) and about a year later I moved out of my parents house and into my own home. Well, it was a hard time for me and I couldn't afford a very nice apartment so I was living in a real sh*t hole. One night I came home from my waitressing job really late and when I opened my door my cat was standing at my feet almost growling. His tail was bushed out and he was really acting angry. I thought he was mad at me or something so I just pushed him aside and tried to go in. Well, he darted out the front door (which he NEVER does) and went under my car, still meowing in that low growl. Well, when I bent down to coax him out I noticed someone standing in my doorway. A large man had broken into my apartment while I was gone. I ran into the middle of the street and called the cops on my cell. The man ran, but the cops eventually found him. MeeMee, my cat, came out from underneath my car when I went inside.
I am so thankful I had him that night because if he hadn't gotten me away from the door, that man could have killed me.
Ever since then I treat him like my angel and he is now getting older and I am taking care of him like he took care of me.

you are lucky you listened to your cats.
My cat, Tiger is very protective of me. If someone touches me he gets mad and if I say ow then he will attack them. He doesn't like anyone to come near me and touch me. He has even attacked my brother for hugging me and my fiancee for tickleing me. He is always trying to protect me. Some cats are just that way. He is even getting protective of my puppy that I just got a few weeks ago.

I think that the cats sensed or some how new 'cause i vaguely remember reading that cat's could see ghost or something or sense freaky things, they are the perfect witch companions. i think thats like kitty behavior.
